"You're kidding me," Callie muttered as they entered Room 16, taking in their new surroundings.
"Get settled in girls, and then have a look around campus, you can pick up your timetables from me after 4p.m," Pam said with a crooked smile and closed the door.
Meghan looked around the large room and groaned. There were twin beds, one by the window and by the wall, with little bedside cabinets either side, the four walls painted a gone off white, the carpet looked like it had used to be a pale beige but now it was a degran gray. The curtains in the small square window were an off-white. There was a small sink at the other end of the room inbetween two double wardropes, but where was the bathroom?
"There's no bathroom, Cal," Meghan stated, "no kettle, no stove. I hate this already!" She slumped down onto the bed and it made a loud creaking sound.
Callie looked around and shrugged. "Babe, we're stuck here. Unless someone miracalously leaves one of the new dorms, this is what we'll have to put up with."
There was a light rapping on the door and Callie went to answer it. Meghan looked up as the door slowly opened inwards and saw two girls, one with dyed bright red hair and the other with a half shaven head.
"Hey, you got stuck with one of these shitty rooms too, huh?" The redhead said, walking into the room without being asked in. "I'm Ebony Ward, and she's Carinna Blake. There's only 9 of us all together in this dorm, that's us four and you'll meet the others soon, we share the communal shower room and kitchen, which are down the hall to the right."
Meghan stood up and nodded at Ebony. "I'm Meghan Harries and she's," pointing to Callie, "Callie Smithson. Yeah, well we weren't supposed to live on campus, we were meant to have an apartment in Gleddow's Grove but the owners decided to sell up."
Ebony chuckled. "Gleddow's Grove? You a rich girl?" She looked Meghan up and down with a raised eyebrow.
Meghan laughed. "My parent's have good jobs, and I'm just lucky to have them, that's all."
Ebony nodded, throwing a glance over at Carinna. Meghan studied Ebony closely. She was pretty, but her eyebrows were thick, drawn in with too much eyeliner. Her makeup was too brown for her skin, and she had the brightest red lipstick Meghan had ever seen. She was skinny, too skinny, as the hotpants she doned revealed thin, long legs and the black crop top showing off her ribs and hipbones. She averted her gaze to Carinna, who was in a totally different category. She was on the chubby side, and had piercings all over her face. There were earrings in both her ears that gaped huge holes in the middle. Her hair had been shaved into zigzags on one side and the rest of her mousey-blonde hair lay limply on the other side.
"You're rich, and you're pretty," Ebony spoke then with a smirk. "Got a boyfriend back home?"
Meghan was a little taken aback by Ebony's abruptness but replied with a shake of her head. "No, no boyfriend. You?"
Ebony and Carinna both laughed and Meghan looked over at Callie who just pulled a face and shrugged.
"No, babe, I'm gay. Carinna's my girlfriend," Ebony answered, putting an arm around Carinna. "Been together nine months in two days."
"Oh!" Meghan said, a little surprised. "That's.. nice. Urm, can we catch up sometime later? We really need to make a start on unpacking and things.."
Ebony nodded. "No bother, babe. See ya later," and with that, her and Carinna left, leaving Meghan and Callie staring at eachother in wonder.

It was just gone two o'clock when the two girls had unpacked and made the room theirs. Posters of Skrillex were up on the walls on Callie's side, and on Meghan's; there was collages full of photos of her family and friends.
"Tomorrow, we'll drive into town and get some new bedding and nice curtains," Meghan said, changing out of her black leggins and red sweater into a pair of stonewashed jeggins and a gray hoody. She pulled her long, blonde hair back into a high ponytail and sighed. "I'm starving, shall we have a look what they sell in the food court?"
Callie combed through her jet black hair and nodded. "Yes, let's get out of here."
They exited the room and hurried down the large, spiral staircase and out of the front door, making their way through the throng of students who were bustled around signing up for clubs and whatnot, and then arrived at the food court. To the left there was a a burger joint called 'Sloppy Joes', to the middle there was a pizzeria named 'Ed's Pizzas', and to the right there was 'Pasta, Salads, Etc.' - Very original, not.
They headed into Pasta, Salads, Etc and grabbed a table close to one of the windows. Meghan took a menu and scanned through it, until deciding on having Pesto and sundried tomato pasta.
A waitress came up to their table, a short, chubby girl with a nametag that read 'Chloe'. "Hi, have you decided what you want?"
Meghan nodded and smiled. "I'll have Pesto and Callie wants Bolognesse, with two Pepsis, please."
Chloe wrote down their order and gave them both a beaming smile. "You freshmen?"
"Yeah, got here about three hours ago," Meghan replied, "what about you?"
"This is my second year, I'm studying Psychology and Sociology. It's hard but I'll get there. What dorm are you staying in?" Chloe asked, tucking a strand of her light honey brown hair behind her ear.
"Becker Halls," Callie said, rolling her sea-green eyes. "We had no choice."
"Oh, no, really? Unlucky," Chloe said sympathetically. "I'm in Honeyside Halls, it's one of the new buildings. You should come over and check out the difference!" She winked and walked off, leaving the two girls alone.
After eating, they decided to go check out orientation, to see what was on offer. The college was big on its Greek life, so there were sororities and fraternaties everywhere. But Meghan wasn't interested in joining any sorority. She was just here to learn. Callie left her to go see the Swimming Team's table, so Meghan went over to a table decorated with cakes and pastries. Two girls and a boy stood behind the table, each busy talking to other students. She could take a baking class aswell as her other majors, she wanted to be a Math teacher at a high school, so Advanced Math and English were here major classes. Between taking them, she could do some baking. The boy, who was very cute, with sandy blonde hair and a very athletic type build turned to her and asked if he could help her with anything.
"Hey, are there any spaces left for this class? I love baking," Meghan said with a smile.
"Sure there are, do you want to take a booklet to look at? Tells you what days and times the classes are and what you will need to buy before the first class," the boy said, handing Meghan a booklet. "If you still wanna sign up without checking it out though, sign this sheet here."
Meghan signed it and looked up at the boy. "Thanks. I'm Meghan." She held out her right hand and he shook it with his own big, warm one.
"Chuck," he said with a grin. "Guess I'll be seeing you around, Meghan."
