Well.. That was the reason why I moved out of the city. I needed a fresh start. I needed to get away from all the memories. Everywhere that I went to reminded me of.... him. I sighed as I pulled up to the small gas station, resting my head on the steering wheel. I have decided to move a small town. In the middle of nowhere. Bark's Bay. Population you may ask? 235. It's not even close to an ocean. It's a nice town, from some of the pictures I have seen.
I unbuckled myself from the seat and opened the car door, stepping out before slamming it shut. I debated on locking it but decided against it and moved to the entrance of the station. Kinda creepy if you ask me, but whatever. I pushed the door open, ringing the bell that hung above it. There wasn't the many people in here. Three or four to most. I cringed as the people turned to look at me. I hated being a center of attention. I flashed a small smile before moving to the back of store, grabbing a bottle of water and a box of chewy granola bars.. I walked to the contour and placed them on it. The old woman looked up at me with a smile. I smiled back before shifting to one foot to the other and she began to ring up the two items.
"Thank you, Ma'am." I said.
"You're welcome, darlin." I went to turn around but I stopped.
"Ma'am, do you know where Bark's Bay would be located?" I asked. She looked at me and then turned to the old man next to her.
"Bark's Bay? Why-" She said.
"It's a mile down the road from here. There's a sharp curve though so be careful when you round it. You'll come to a fork in the road after, you'll want to go right." A deep voice said from behind me. I frowned before looking behind me. A man, a few years older than I, stood with his arms crossed against his broad chest. His brown haircut a little short, longer than mine. He was fucking huge. At least 6'1" with bulging muscles. I nodded slowly before clearing my throat softly.
"Thank you...?" I asked softly.
"Daniel." He said gently, grinning softly. I nodded slowly before grabbing my bag, smiling softly as the old lady before heading out. I heard footsteps from behind me. I glanced behind me to see Daniel. "So are you new here?" He asked. I nodded as I went back to my red honda, opening the door. "Thought so. Bark's Bay doesn't get that many visitors." He hummed, leaning against my car. I raised my eyebrow at his friendliness.
"I had to move." I stated, a frown working its way to my lips. Daniel nodded before looking up at the sky.
"I'm sorry about that but glad you picked this place." He said before someone called his name. I watched as a hand waved at him from a window in a large black truck. "Aw shit, I better get going," He said and started walking off before turning back to me. "This town is pretty friendly so except a lotta people comin by, us included. You know, us country folk." He laughed before yelling back to the people in the truck, running to them.
I let out a frustrated groan before slipping into my car, starting it up. I pulled out of the parking lot, noticing that he was still at the store before rolling my eyes. I continued to drive until I came to the fork in the road. He had said turn right and so I did. I drove more, pressing on the gas a little, until I stopped at a red light. I grabbed my phone, checking the message from my real estate agent, Emily. Great now she changed the meeting place again. Steve's cafe. 6th street. Okay... I drove around small town until I came to a small building called Steve's cafe, which wasn't hard to find. I pulled into the driveway and got out, walking in, the little bell ringing. I saw my realtor waving me over and sat down at a table.
"Ready to see the house?" She asked. I nodded and we both got up, me getting into my car and her in hers. She pulled out first and I followed her before turning to a dirt road. She pulled to a stop in front of a large white plantation house with a wrap around porch around it, a dark blue roof and many windows. I opened my door and got out, walking over to her actually looking at her. Her hair was cut in a cute bob, her skin nice and scar less, unlike mine which had a scar on my forehead from.. I shook my head before looking at the house.
