Then and Now

Not supposed to be this way.

"Hi sorry I couldn't get to the phone right now but I will try to later. " Jakes voicemail said. I had been trying to call him for hours now but he wont answer. Getting up to go to school I put my phone on the bed and left the room before my phone rang. I ran to the bed and answered the call hoping it was Jake. "Hey where are you?" I asked. "At home. " came Eric's voice. "Oh is this Eric? " I asked. "Yeah who you think it was?" he asked. "Jake, but why'd you call?" I said. "Umm I just wanted to know if you wanted to get breakfast with me before school starts." he asked/said. I put a hand through  my hair sighing. "Um yeah sure see you in 10." I said. "Okay where meeting at the coffee shop . he said." " Okay Bye." I said. "Bye. " he replied. 

Getting ready for school I took a shower brushed my teeth, and washed my face, I went to Sarah's room with my backpack in hand and knocked lightly. "Yeah come in!" Sarah yelled. "Heyyyyy. " I stopped when I saw Sarah on the phone. I waved telling her I was leaving with she replied she was leaving in 20 minutues. I waved then left the room, got in the car, and headed to the coffee shop. I finally arrived at  Good delight or at lest that's what the sign said. I entered the door and the little bell rung above me signaling I was in. I took a seat where I saw Eric but he didn't see me yet. "Hey." I said as he looked up and smiled. "Hey do you want anything?" he asked. "Um yeah ill go get it." I said getting up but Eric stopped me" no ill get it." he said. "Okay thanks." I smiled.

Minutes later eric came back with fresh hot coffee. "Thanks. " I said as he sat down. "Your welcome, but can I ask you a question?" he asked. I nodded. "Is this Jake guy who you mentioned on the phone earlier, is he your boyfriend?" "No hes my cousin." I said trying hard not to laugh. "Oh good. " he said takeing a deep breath in . "Why are you so relived? " I asked. Ya know this coffee is really good." he said avoiding my question. I looked at him for a minute before taking another sip of coffee, wow it really is good.

By the time school was over I headed over to Clara's house and we went to the mall. "So he hasn't been calling you or texting or anything?" Clara asked as we went to inside of another store. "No and its not normal for Jake to be like this, I mean I'm not saying that we talk 24/7 on a regular basis I'm just saying that we talk often." I said. "So when did you last talk to him?" she asked. "Uh wensday I stated. "Okay and it Friday I'm sure hell be back today." Clara said camly and slowly. "Okay okay, what do you think about this shirt on me?" I asked at least trying to change the subject, hopefully Jake would be back by tommorow.

By the time I got home it was 7. I opened the door with my keys and as soon as I stepped foot in the living room I saw my sister Sarah chatting with kayla and amber but still no Jake. "Hey Sarah." I said smiling. "Hey." she said also smiling. I sat down on the couch and we all chatted. A half and hour later amber phone vibrated. "Hey guys..., amber said slowly, jakes been in a bad car wreck and we need to go to the hospital now ! " she cried. "Oh my gosh lets go!" I said as we ran out the door.

As soon as we parked we ran toward the enter doors and went to the emergency room. "Excuse me doctor were here for Jake miller!" I said. "Girls I'm Dr. jack and I'm sorry but you cant go in right now." he said. "What do you mean we cant go in! " I yelled. "I'm sorry..he trailed off. Instead of listening I ran and found the room where Jake was in.  I ran in and saw tubes and an air bag connected to his body and blood lots and lots of blood. "No!" I screamed crying. I felt 2 hands trying to pull me back which I'm guessing was Sarah since I saw kayla hugging amber out of the corner of my teary eyes. I ran toward Jake not caring that he was covered in blood.  "Jake its me please wake up! " I cried. This time kayla and Sarah pulled me back while the doctors and nurses escorted us out. I suddenly felt really dizy and felt the room spinning so I sat down.

A few hours later were still at the hospital when Dr. jack finally came out with a clipboard and sat down with us. "So hes in a stable condition but he lost a lot of blood. " he said. "Well what happened?" Sarah asked. "Well he was in a car crash as you all know, but when the car crashed, there car flipped over about 2 times and he surprisingly made it. "He was the only one in the car?" kayla asked. "Well no ." he lifted up a sheet off his clipboard. "Diana Wilson was also but she didn't make it." he said sadly. "Who Is Diana?" I asked my voice coming out croaky and a little cracked from all the crying . "Jakes girlfriend." amber said staring at the floor. No one said anything after that. "Well you can all head home ill call you in the morning." Dr.jack said. "No I'm staying ." I said. Dr. jack smiled and said "That's perfectly fine but this is the only night." then he walked away. :I guess were all staying." kayla said. "Okay ill call both of our parents in the morning." Sarah said . I closed my eyes and thought back to what Clara said earlier at the mall. She was right, he was back today but not in the way I wanted or expected.
