I ran my hands through my long brunette hair, that really needed a trimming, and looked into my dull blue eyes. I was a little shorter than average, but I didn't really mind. I lifted my pants up since they kept sliding down and made my way out of the bathroom accidentally bumping into someone.

I looked up and saw another girl my age with short brunette hair.

"Oh, um sorry. I-Im Callie. You must be Alex," She smiles warmly as she put her hand out for me to shake.

I looked up at her and glanced down at her hand and hesitated before grabbing it and giving it a shake.

"Yeah, that's me," I replied smiling a little.

"Come on, I was sent to tell you that dinner's ready," Callie informed me.

I followed behind her and went back to my seat in the dining table, not realizing there were two new people staring at me.

"W-who's this?" another guy with brown hair and brown eyes asked as he smiled at me. I looked up at him not liking all this attention, at all.

"Uh, this is Alex. She's going to be staying with us for a while." Lena filled him in and patted his shoulder while giving me a smile.

"Oh, ok. It's nice to meet you," He added as he slid some lasagna into my plate. My mouth watered just looking at it.

"What about him?" I asked as I picked up my fork. Lena gave me a confused look.

"How'd you get him? 99 cents store? I mean they have everything there." I chuckled dryly as I ate some lasagna causing everyone to laugh. 

Later I learned that his name was Brandon, her partner's biological son and Jude was Callie's biological brother who they also adopted.

"Hey honey," I looked up and saw a woman in a police uniform causing me to literally choke on my lasagna as Lena kissed the cop.

"W-y-youre a cop?" I said looking up at her in shock. I mean i'm a teenager that smokes weed, living with a cop is not an ideal situation.

"See? this is why no boys ever wanna come over." Mariana added jokingly.

"And who's this?" Stephanie smiled at me as she took a sip of her wine.

After eating dinner Steph and Lena explained to me that curfew on school days is 7 and I'm going to be attending highschool while I stay here.

They let me take a shower and gave me sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt to change in.

I laid dow on the couch I was going to be crashing on and tried to get some sleep. key word being tried.

After an hour of staring at the ceiling I got up to raid their pantry, since I was kinda hungry again.

I tip toed to the kitchen but stopped once I saw Marianna taking pills from a basket in the kitchen and placing the basket back on the shelf in a rush. I touched my necklace out of instinct, debating on saying anything.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion and heard her gasp when she noticed me there.

"I-i was just getting some water." She said to me as she ran upstairs.

Sure you were.

I opened the pantry and grabbed a chocolate chip granola bar and tried to go back to sleep.

"Good morning, sweetie. Breakfast is served, dig right in."Lena said sweetly.

I scanned the kitchen praying they had coffee until my eyes finally landed on the kettle and I poured myself a cup. I smelled the coffee and smiled.
