"Theo..." I crouched to him frightened. But the second shot sounded. This time, the bullet hit my back. Under the pressure my body slipped down to the ground. It fell on Theo. He hugged me and gripped me tightly. But by this time, Gabe kept shooting. Bullets were hitting me one by one until Theo took me and changed our positions. Now he became Gabe's target.
I couldn't take this anymore. Both physically and emotionally. So much electricity had already went through me. So did through Theo. And so did through my former classmate Ethan who was making kind of a border between the two of us.
I had no idea how long we'd been there, attached to those bars. I could barely feel my arms since they were attached above my head.
I had no idea how long Ethan had been there. When I woke up, I'd already been attached. Hard to say who had been there longer.
I had no idea how much more we'd have to suffer. How much electricity would have to go through us. How big part of our skin would have to be burned for them to have enough.
I had no idea what would happen to us then. How long we'd be there. How long they would just stare at us. The people of Beacon Hills - representative of all possible jobs, all possible age categories. I didn't even perceive that just five feet in front of me, my brother was standing. I didn't care. And even if I did. As soon as any of us had breathe the shock, we would have gotten another batch. Just one word was enough. Electricity. Only one look at one of our fellow prisoners. Electricity.
"Take a good look," a darker skinned woman stepped out to us from a shadow. I hated her so much I was surprised I have so much hate in me. She was holding an electricity controller in one hand, an arrow in the second one. I didn't know what she wanted to achieve with it. But I realized one thing. A motivation speech was about to occur. Which meant she could give us a break for, like, two or three minutes. "We keep that current of electricity coursing through them because he'd rip through his bindings. Because otherwise he'd break free and kill us."
"I'd start with you," Ethan didn't forgive himself. In return, Monroe pressed a button on the controller. My knees broke, but my hands were attached high enough so I stayed on my feet. I just closed my eyes and screamed.
"You idiot!" I yelled at him after few seconds of not having the electricity going through our bodies. All three of us were breathing heavily. "You fucking idiot!"
I could feel it again. The incredible pain. The agony.
"So I am the idiot, right?" Ethan turned to me.
"Yes, you are! Shut the fuck up, Ethan, or you will join your brother, you dumbass!"
"Calm the hell down!" Theo shouted. My eyes glowed yellow. His voice. He. I hate him. A fucking imposter.
"See?" Monroe proceeded in her speech. "They simply can't control trolling themselves. It's easier for us now, though. The people who came before us used arrows and crossbows to fight them. This is all they had to protect themselves, a sliver of wood. While he has claws that can cut into bone," she came to Ethan and grabbed his hand as emphasizing her words, "and fangs to tear us apart," she grabbed his jaw and made sure his mouth stayed opened so everyone could have a chance to see his abnormal teeth. "They're stronger, faster and their ability to heal can only be described as extraordinary. You," she pointed with the arrow at Nolan's classmate who was by coincidence just standing next to him. Monroe headed to her, she gave us a while for recuperating. "What's your name?"
"Sydney."
"You've see them up close. Don't be shy."
"There was a lacrosse game. We got trapped in the library."
