[…]

Normani starts to scream and I can hear Ally’s voice asking what happened.
I get out of the parking lot looking to both sides of the road then I start to head to school. I chuckle on the phone and shake my head when I hear Normani telling Ally what happened, then in a second, I swear, it was just a second and my heart raced like it was going to jump out of my chest through my mouth. I shook like a baby dick who just fell inside a bucket full of water, but there was no way I could do anything to avoid this. The car hit the front wheel of my bicycle and I’m thrown straight to the front window of the car, then fall back again on the ground. A sudden pain rushes through my ribs and head, I can’t breathe. Although there were almost nobody in the street, I visualized many people surrounding me within seconds.

Some people say you can’t understand that you’re dying when you’re in a situation like that, that you just die there and you can’t think about anything but get away from the pain you’re feeling. That’s not quite true. I felt the pain, but I felt it like my life was getting sucked out of my body, and just then everything was a blur and I couldn’t see anything anymore, and I understood I got hit by a goddamn car and was probably going to die and boy, that sucked.

Lauren's POV

“I feel like she’s absolutely NOT going to call me”, Lauren said chuckling to her friend, Shawn, while scanning an old lady’s groceries.

“Why not? Did she do anything for you to think that?” the boy asked playfully spinning on his chair since his cashier was free.

“No, but like, I felt like I was…” she thought about the right word before speaking, “Suffocating her or something, I don’t know”.

“That’s because you overthink everything too much, Lo. I saw the little smirks you took from her, believe me, she IS going to call. And if she doesn’t, then she’s-“,
the boy was interrupted by a strange movement of two guys dropping their groceries in their car and running out of the parking lot.

You couldn’t see much from Lauren’s cashier, but if you tilted your head -a lot-, or sit on Shawn’s cashier, you could see a few cars. It was 8:30 in the morning, and nothing happens at 8:30 in the morning, so Shawn shrugged it, but forgot what he was about to say.

“If she doesn’t call me, that means she’s the most sane person in the world”, Lauren continued Shawn’s thought, then finished packing the woman’s groceries.

“This is going to cost you thirty-three dollars and fifty-six, my darling”, Lauren referred to the old woman sweetly.

Running her hand through her grey hair, the old lady took a small purse out from a big pocket on her floral dress, then slid forty dollars to Lauren.

The black haired girl gave the woman’s change rapidly not even having to struggle, or use a calculator, to know how many she would have to give back, she’s always been good with numbers. She slid the change to the woman with a sympathetic smile, and wished her good morning.

Shawn immediately got up from his chair and offered the woman help with her groceries, which she took graciously. Lauren saw the boy’s movements and rolled her eyes. “He’ll come back in a second bragging about his muscles”, she thought with herself.
