Two: Cells Of Safety.
I HESITANTLY WALK INTO THIS HEAVILY covered area; Rick had called his groups prison. why I trusted this man was beyond me. Can't drop it till you try it, I guess. I grab Oliver's hand upon instinct when the gate shut behind us. We had walked about 45 more minutes before we got here. By the look of it, it seemed safe. For now at least, and all I needed was a 'for now'. We'd leave once my health was okay again. No attachments. That was my rule for being in groups, no attachments mean no reaction to the deaths and no hesitation when we leave. Oliver had a hard time with that one, understandably. But I didn't. After Jack it was easy to cut off relationships or just not bond with someone. I looked around and caught eyes with the same man, his eyes sent a feeling in my stomach. Something I've never felt before. His eyes were fierce, like they were challenging me in some way. Threatening me, like I'd done something horrible. His eyes never faltered until Rick walked up to him placing a hand on his shoulder, he seemed to relax around said man. He was just as attractive. He had a protective feeling to him unlike Mr. 'I wanna kill everyone with my looks' I looked away from them slowly once he started his way to me. I watched Oliver smile at a woman much older than me by the name of Carol as she accompanied him while me and Rick spoke oh and that one guy Daryl was there too like some master - puppy shit. "I'm going to ask you some questions is that alright?" I nodded and sent him a smile. "Sure." he nodded. "How many walkers have you killed?" I thought for a moment, "I honestly lost count after a while sorry." he nodded, seemingly accepting of my answer. "it's alright, how many people have you killed?" looking him in the eyes I mean I understand why he's asking these things its only for the safety of his people, so I thought for a moment, "None" making eye contact with him once more he nodded. "Why?" I avert my eyes looking at Olivers dirty sweaty features, "To protect my family?" he gave me a simple smile. "Welcome then Alexis." I smile back at him slightly. "Thanks" he gave me a short nod as he walked off towards a young boy taking the sheriffs hat off him and ruffling the boys grown out hair. I walked over to the older woman and Oliver putting my hand on his head, I smiled at the woman "So who's the boy I saw Rick with?" she looked over her shoulder and spotted the young boy I had asked about. Looking back at me she smiled "That's Carl, Rick's son" I nodded and looked down at Oliver. "Maybe you can befriend him yeah?" Oliver grinned and nodded his head. "Is he yours?" looking back up at carol I shake my head "No I lost my son at the beginning I got split from him and my husband at the time all I have is this little shit." I looked down sadly, but I smiled as I watched Oliver run over to the other children that were here. "I understand the feeling of that, but I never got my Sophia back" I look at Carol sad to hear she lost her daughter to one of those monsters. I give the woman a side hug "I'm sorry you lost your baby" she nodded and gave me a small smile as she returned the favor and hugged me back "It's fine" I nodded, and we both continued watching the kids. Sounds kinda creepy I know.
Oliver
I watched cautiously as some of the kids my age were close to the gate wall naming the walkers as they tried gnawing and reaching out for them "Maybe you shouldn't be that close—" trying desperately to get them to stop and back away from the ugly dead things, soon enough a boy in a sheriff's hat walked up. "You're naming them?" the girls turned around, "Well one of them had a nametag so we thought all of them should." I looked between the taller boy and Mika. "They had names when they were alive, they're dead now." I silently watch as the girls continued trying to convince the older boy that the walkers weren't dead, finally Lizzie gave up. "We're supposed to go read c'mon." she started walking away the one other girl and boy following her Mika stayed behind, me of course being curious stuck back too. "Coming to story time tonight?" Mika questioned the tall lanky boy next to Sheriff's hat he looked between her and him. "Uh... yeah." Mika smiled happily. "Seeya then...!" she then walked away leaving me there I quickly turn around to leave. "Hey, you— why didn't you try stopping them." slumping my shoulders I turn back around and face the two boys me being shorter than the both of them I look up "I tried Lizzie wouldn't listen to me" he nodded, "She's complicated probably end up getting herself killed" my eyes widen. "You really think so?" he scoffed slightly. "She's smart yeah but she's more naïve than anything" I nodded and looked down. "I suppose you're right" I said quickly before turning around, "Hey wait—" ignoring him I continue onward back to Alexis. I wanted to keep her rule this time. No attachments.
I walk down the stairs from the cell I'd be staying in with Oliver and open the first door that I was told was the showers. it was a nice-looking, for what you'd expect from a prison. Better than nothing. I grip the new shirt and shorts I was given and walk in. I didn't wanna be surprised when some guy or something walked in and saw me butt naked. Happened once, swear on my life it won't happen a second time.
I step out of the bathroom in the black shirt and jean-shorts. It felt good having a clean outfit on. Plus, I could take off my bra, I've been wearing the same worn-out bra for 3 years, my breasts have sagged enough after having a kid, I don't need that thing worsening it. I dry my damp hair with a towel just as someone walked up the stairs to my cell. I pause and look up, it just so happened to be Daryl. I toss the towel onto my bed and cross my arms over my breasts. My nipples were hard from the cold air, didn't want him to see that. "Yes...?" I ask when he said nothing, seemingly snapping from his daze he looked at me blinking once and then pointing his thumb behind him. "Food." he mumbles, I roll my eyes subtly and nod. "Alright, I'll be down in a second." he said nothing and left, his footsteps receding down the stairs. Something about him brought a spark to my blood. I had no idea what, maybe it was the fact he was not only hot but broody and had a protective aura to him that I've never felt before. Something Jack never had, or maybe it was just the fact I was incredibly horny after being inactive for 3 years, too long. For anyone. Trust me...
I laugh at Oliver who explains in detail what he did today. I was glad he was around kids his age, 'specially now, with the world shit now, he needs socialization, to feel normal in this unnormal world. I push his shoulder lightly smiling. "I'm glad you had fun kiddo. You full?" I ask ruffling his hair, which was greasy. He hadn't showered yet. "Yeah! The food was so good, I missed hot meals." he said sighing contently. "I did too, now go shower so we can go to sleep." I laughed quietly and toss him the now dry towel I used earlier. "Go on." I pat his back forcing him to move faster. I remove the sheet from the top bunk, I knew with Olivers nightmares he'd wanna share a bed, no matter how old he is. So, I'd use this free sheet to my advantage. But one thing I hadn't thought of, my height and t-rex arms. "Fuck..." I mumble standing on my tiptoes trying to keep the sheet up while I tucked it properly, but it wasn't going my way. "Need help?" I peek out from the half-up sheet and give Rick a smile. "I'd love some." he nodded and moved into the cell with me taking the sheet from me and doing it properly. I brush my hair back with my hands and give the man a smile. "Thanks." he nods and goes to leave. "Hey, Rick?" I ask hugging my arms to my body. "Yeah?" I let out a sigh and look at him giving a real smile. "Thanks for this, for letting us in. Oliver really needed this. I did too." he nods and returns my smile before leaving. I sit down on the bottom bunk and wait for Oliver to get back.
I lay on my back, Oliver beside me flipping through a comic Carl had given him. "How was the shower?" I quietly asked running my fingers through his long black-ish damp hair. "It was nice, good to be clean again..." he mumbles flipping to the next page. I watch him silently. "That's good. Hey Ollie?" he hums. "Is it alright if we stay. For a while. This group seems different. Unlike the others." I mumble, Olivers head snaps up and he drops the comic in his lap sitting up. "Really?!" I nod and slowly get up. "Yes! I'd love that!" I smile as he hugs me tightly. "Alright, kid calm yourself. I can't promise you this group will last forever, maybe not even a month. So, let's see." I explain brushing his hair from his face keeping a neutral calm expression. He nods and lays back down taking me down with him. "Alright. I hope it does, I really like them." I smile and roll onto my side facing him. "I do too, they're good people. Alright, go to sleep, good-night kiddo." I press a kiss to his forehead and go onto my other side.
