I woke up in the evening at around 7pm. Finally, I checked my phone after two days. There were just three missed calls from Priyanka. There was a time when she used to call continuously till I pick up the call. And now just three missed calls from her after three days! What has brought this sudden change in her? Is it Sameer? I had so many regrets. I should've never dated Kirti. Why did I get infatuated? When I had Priyanka's love, still why I was testing our love? Even I loved Priyanka since school, but for popularity or whatever was the reason, I dated Kirti. Dating Kirti was the biggest mistake of my life. But now I'll improve all my mistakes. I decided to call Kirti. I told her to meet me as soon as possible. As usual she expected a gift.
"Baby, you're calling me at 8:30 in the night. This better be important."
"I have a surprise for you sweetheart."
"Oh. A gift?"
"Yeah, somewhat like that. Meet me near the Downtown at 9pm. Don't be late", and I hung up.
I purposely went late. I knew Kirti would definitely come on time in the name of the gifts.
"Baby, I've been waiting for you since fifteen minutes. Is it good to keep your loved one waiting?"
"No sweetheart. I'm sorry. This is the last time you'll be waiting for me and thsi is my last gift?"
"What is that supposed to mean?", she asked being a bit worried.
"I mean...", I said after a short pause, "..breakup."
Kirti froze. For a second, she did not understand my words.
"What do you mean by breakup Varun?! For no particular reason, one night you call me and suddenly say breakup! Are you drunk? Or are you nuts?"
"I'm totally alright Kirti. It's just that I don't love you."
"Wait a minute. This is a joke, right? It's.. It's a surprise right?"
I felt like laughing at her stupidness. But somehow I controlled it. What a girl! Still thinking about some surprise! I answered her, trying to control my laughter, "No Kirti. This is not a joke or anything else. I free you from this relationship."
This time she got angry. I've never seen her like this before. She caught my collar and puller me close.
"You can't do this to me Varun! I'm the one who ditched ten guys for you and now you're ditching me!"
"Kirti, even you don't love me. It's just infatuation."
"Oh just shut the fuck up. It's no more about love, it's about my ego now. You've hurt my ego - Kirti's ego and you'll pay for this."
Before I could speak anything else, she said, "Before you break up with me, I broke up with you. I ditched you, okay?"
I could atleast help Kirti in that way. "Okay, Kirti. You ditched me."
"Yeah. Better. Now don't you dare show me your dirty face again."
"Yeah. Sure", I said with a smile. Kirti got up to leave. Before going, she gave me a wicked smirk and a dirty look.
