Leyah changed into a long sleeved burgundy wrap dress, it hung just over her knee and tied at the waist flowing out. Her hair was straight, and she put on some black strap high heels that wrapped once around her ankle. She looked like she just stepped out of a magazine. She came downstairs her mother looked her up and down.
"You look gorgeous honey, where are you going?" She asked.
"Bryan's birthday is today, his mom is making him a little party."
Her mother raised one eyebrow, "I thought he would be over little parties by now." She giggled.
"Mom it's not like there's going to be balloons and piñatas there." Leyah shook her head annoyed at her mother's comments. She sat by the front window waiting for Bryan to come and get her. Leyah thought about Roni stabbing Drew, when Leyah asked her what happened, Roni just stared blankly. She didn't say she did do it, but she never said she didn't.Leyah's mother came behind her and began touching her hair,
"I always love when you straighten it." Leyah pushed her mother's hand away,
"Mom please." Her mother walked away into the kitchen shaking her head. Bryan pulled into the driveway,
"Mom, Bryan is here." Her mother came out of the kitchen as Bryan got to the front door.
"Can't you get up and answer the door?" She said as she gave Leyah an angry look. She opened the door, "hey honey, how are you?" Bryan looked good as usual, he was wearing a black beanie and an Adidas grey tracksuit with black stripes at the side. He had on white Air Force one court shoes. He wore a white gold necklace around his neck, that Leyah bought him for his birthday. It was half of a heart and she had the other half on. He came in and looked at Leyah and grinned from ear to ear. His teeth were sparkling white.
"Hey baby, you look beautiful." He complimented Leyah. He wanted to kiss her but didn't want to in front of Leyah's mother, out of respect. Leyah smiled and got up from her chair. Leyah hugged her mother and they walked out to Bryan's truck. Her mother looked at the young couple, remembering how she was with her now ex-husband. Bryan opened her door and then got in, "happy birthday baby." She said gently as she leaned in to kiss him on the cheek. Bryan turned and kissed her lips,
"this is the best birthday ever baby, I love you." He looked her in the eyes, and she kissed him again. Leyah's mother was still watching, Bryan noticed her by the door and drove off.
"How's Drew going?" She asked.
"Yea, he's good. They said he should be out soon, apparently the wound was closer to his shoulder. That nigga thought he was dying." Bryan laughed.
"Does he know who did it?"
"He said it was a drug deal gone wrong."
Leeya looked out the window and smiled to herself thinking, he is such a liar, he hurt my best friend and so she fucked him up and he's lucky she didn't kill him
Bryan's mother and aunties couldn't wait to meet Leyah, they all filled the house with presents and food. Leyah walked in and Bryan's mother smiled from ear to ear, she was so beautiful, she thought. She stared at her son with his arm around Leyah, she could tell he was in love with this girl. Maybe she should worry about her son's heart being broken not the other way around. She walked up to her and hugged her, "hi, I'm Bryan's mom. Just call me Regina," Leyah gently smiled at her.
"I'm Leyah, really nice to meet you." She said hugging her back. Bryan's two aunties were sitting back at the dining table observing her. Bryan came over to them,
