Have you heard from Adrian?" Roni asked as she stuck her fries in the bucket of ketchup. Dikemebe looked on shaking her head "I don't know how you people eat that food." she clapped her lips, sometimes she was so arrogant.
"You people?" Roni snapped back.
"Sorry, not meaning anything bad, I just cannot eat all this type of cooking." Dikembe continued.Leyah laughed as she grabbed some of Roni's fries. "Girl, it's good for you. Did I tell you Justin took me to D'Lorenzo's the other night?" Leyah bragged.
Roni opened her mouth and made a breathy sound, "That dude legit likes you, he was probably celebrating when Bryan dumped you."
Dikembe ate her rice she packed from home, as she looked on at the two girls talking.
Leyah punched Roni on the arm, "By the way he didn't dump me." Leyah announced. Roni chuckled as she popped open her lemonade. "And no Adrian hasn't called me, he's just a jerk." Leyah said sadly as she checked her phone again to make sure. Dikembe put down her spoon and finished chewing her rice, "When girls go out with married men in my country, they become outcasts to society." Dikembe stated.
Leyah looked at Roni who was choking on her lemonade laughing."Dikembe, firstly I had no clue he was married." Leyah answered abruptly.
Dikembe snapped back and said, "Well, you know now."
Leyah, looked at Roni who wasn't saying a word. Leyah was quiet, she had no comeback.
Roni changed the subject "So who's going to the party after the football game on Saturday?"
Dikembe listened carefully, "I would love to go!" Dikembe said excitedly.
"We should all go." Roni said looking at Leyah who was deep in thought. She smacked the table, "Hello earth to Leyah, come in Leyah."
Leyah looked up, "Yea, that will be fun. Just us girls though, I'm sick of boys."
Dikembe laughed, "I'm not sick of them, I want a man." They all cackled like little witches.Leyah was in her bedroom studying, her mother knocked on her door. "Come in." Leyah sat up,
"Is everything okay? We haven't spoken in a while and you were looking so sad at dinner earlier on." Her mother said sadly. Leyah licked her lips which was dry from the warmth of the heater. Her mother touched her hair and stroked it. "I'm fine, I just have a lot of homework."Her mother sat down next to her on the bed, "Your Dad called to speak to you, so call him when you get the chance." She rolled her eyes, "Why do you do that Leyah?" Her mother asked.
"Because he doesn't care about me, he's just doing what he thinks he has to do as a father. If he cared, he would be here."
Her mother got up, "Just please call him when you are free." She picked up Leyah's dirty laundry on the way out and closed the door behind her. She threw her books on the floor and began to cry thinking of her Dad, her tears streamed down her face uncontrollably, she knew if he was here, she would never be going through any of this drama. She buried her face in her pillow, as there was another knock on her door again,"What!" She screamed, she thought it was her mother again, but it was Bryan, he walked in,
"Hey why are you crying?" He walked over to her and sat down beside her on the bed. He pulled her close to him and wrapped her inside his arms. She felt safe and she cried even more as he held her tighter. She was so emotional with everything that was going on and her Dad calling just made everything even worse. Bryan smelled so manly with his cologne, she snuggled her head under his chin and felt his eighteen-year-old stubble scratch her forehead. She didn't want to talk, she just wanted him to hold her. She closed her eyes. Bryan lifted her chin, "Talk to me Baby, what's going on?" Tears filled her bloodshot eyes. Her long legs were exposed, she was wearing white shorts and a dark blue t-shirt. She pulled away from Brian and lay back on her bed. Bryan was so in love with her he wanted to touch her, but he refrained himself.
