Prologue
Our love life has a time limit
The six year old Lisa was in front of the eight year old Jennie, hospital gown is wide open for the older girl to examine her chest with a stethoscope. Both are sitting in a hospital bed, facing each other
“Amazing” said Jennie amazed as she removed the cold round metal on Lisa’s chest
“Eh?” the younger one asked confused
“Your heart is beating really fast!”
“Wow doctor, I’m not sure why but..” Lisa scoffed, trying to pin point the unknown feeling in her chest
“Hmmm? What’s wrong?” Jennie hummed as she leaned close to Lisa
“I’m nervous and have a pain in my chest..”
“That sound bad, let’s have a look” Jennie stared at Lisa’s body from head to toe, acting as a doctor like what her father is.
“Take off your pants” she demanded
The six year old Lisa was confused for a moment, thinking why Jennie would want to take off her pants
“And your underwear too”
And her underwear
“What?” Lisa asked shy and slowly backed away, attempting to jump off her hospital bed because of her older friend suddenly acting so strange
But Jennie leaned closer and held her right hand “Don’t be shy, I’m a doctor. I’m used to it” she said as if she was really used to seeing uh hmm private parts of a kid
"But I can-t.."
“Well off they go!” she suddenly yelled and targeted Lisa’s pants, making Lisa squeak and tries to stop Jennie from pulling down her clothes
“Wai-t Nini! Wait a minute!..” Lisa protested
“Shut up and just take off your pants!” Jennie ordered
“What are you examining down there?”
“Just take it off!” Jennie is still trying to pull down Lisa’s pants
“Nurse! Help!” Lisa yelled as she felt being harassed by her older friend
But Jennie doesn’t seem to hear a thing and continued her thing, she only stopped when a sudden firework display illuminated in the hospital’s room
“Nini, fireworks!” Lisa sits up and looked at her window. The two then hurriedly get out of the room and excitedly run towards the rooftop of the hospital for a better view
“It’s so pretty!” said the smiling and jumping Jennie to Lisa beside her
Lisa smiled back “Yeah it is! Wait here Nini, I will call mom and dad!”
“Hmm! Grabs some snack on your way back!” Jennie didn’t even looked at her friend and continued jumping in the beautiful sight of colorful fireworks
“Okay!” The younger one yelled back, wearing her hospital gown she hurriedly ran on the emergency stairs to look for her mom and dad.
“Found them” She was in all smiles when she found her parents in the doctor’s room, specifically Jennie’s father’s room which is full of computers and xray photograph of a kid’s chest.
Lisa opened the door and was about to call her mom but she stopped when her dad suddeny spoke
“You mean Lisa won’t recover?”
“Of course we haven’t lost hope. But please do understand that there’s currently no known cure” said Jennie's dad
She watched her mom and dad nodded and let the man in his white coat talk
“This really isn’t a cure but, all of her diet and physical activities ..these two must be controlled”
“But that just to prolong her life right?” her dad asked to Jennie’s dad, the man just slightly nodded his head
“If we do these things, how much longer will Lisa live?”
That time, the young Lisa is really confused about what are they talking about. She can’t understand why is she suddenly in a hospital again after being admitted just last week, she also can’t understand why is there a stinging pain on her chest right now and above all, why she can’t understand why her dad is asking how much longer she will live to her doctor, which is her friend’s dad.
“Don’t Marco” her mom grabs his dad’s arm
“No Carol, we should know”
She silently watched her dad nodded his head to the man, indicating they really want to know what his answer is. The man then took a deep breath first before he spoke
“Lisa’s heart won’t be able to withstand her body’s growth” he started, he took again another breath and closed his eyes shut before he spoke again
“At this rate, Lisa won’t be able to reach the age of 20”
Lisa also can’t understand that time why her dad and mom suddenly burst into tears, why her dad lead her mom into his chest and said they will do their best in raising her. Why her doctor said she won’t be able to reach the age of 20
She slowly closed the door and turned back. With all those confusing thoughts on her mind, she was surprised to see her older friend Jennie already in tears while watching her
She was confused at first why is she crying, because she didn’t able to watch the fireworks anymore? Because Jennie got hungry already cause she’s so slow in getting their snacks? Or is it because she didn’t let Jennie pull her pants earlier?
But when Jennie started to run towards her and hug her tight, everything is slowly registering in her still young mind
Lisa didn’t burst in tears but instead she hugged Jennie back
Thinking she has a time limit
No, she shook her head
They have a time limit
