- Avenge Me -
Chapter 6
-Scarlet Baker-
I stared at Celina. I had never expected to see her again. After she left Favian's coven suddenly and unexpectedly, I had accepted the fact that I would probably never see or hear from my sister again. Of course we weren't really sisters, we are from completely different times and places. We just considered ourselves sisters because Favian had changed us both. I was from 18th century England, while Celina had lived in the late Roman empire. She was almost as strong and influential as an ancient, but of course she was not quite so old. But still a fierce enough vampire to be second in command to Favian, and his coven was one of the largest and strongest in the vampire world.
I had once been part of Favian's coven as well, but I had left about a year after Celina did. It hurt to have my best friend leave with no explanation to why and where she was going. Being there had constantly reminded me of her, plus, without her, I didn't have any real reason to stay there. I was on my own for a while, until I met Lukas. He brought me to Anja's coven. It's not that Favian was mean, it's simply that Anja was far kinder. And very fair and unbiased for an ancient.
But getting back to Celina. She stood by the door with Ace beside her, and was gawking at me, like she couldn't believe I was real. Personally, I thought I was dreaming, too. To see someone you feared may have been killed, it was amazing.
We stared at each other for a few more moments, with everyone in the room gawking at us. Suddenly I ran froward and crushed her in an embrace.
"Celina, I missed you," I whispered softly to her.
"I missed you, too, Scarlet." She choked on her words slightly, but her voice was just as quiet as mine.
The rest of the room was watching our reunion with quizzical expressions, which we both promptly ignored. We thought so much alike, we could've been twins if we were born in the same time, or looked anything alike. With my short and delicate frame, dark wavy auburn hair that fell just under my chin and brown eyes, Celina and I looked completely different. But we thought alike. She was missing for so long I was beginning to think I'd never have her complete my sentences, or agree with my strange ideas ever again. And for once, I was glad to be wrong.
-Anja -
I watched Celina Nox hold on tightly to Scarlet. She knew her? Confused, I decided to probe into her mind. What was she hiding? I concentrated on Celina, and being able to understand her. Instantly, I was sifting through her memories. Playing them over, watching her life go by in under a minute.
I saw when she was a young girl, watching her parents die at the hand of the emperor for competing with his wealth and influence. I saw how she was passed from uncle to uncle until one decided the fuss she made was worth keeping her. A sick man. He forced himself on her at just 12 years old. But he controlled her, so no one would pay any notice. Besides, that was almost normal back then. I saw her run away, hide in the streets for 6 years, moving farther away from Rome each year. I saw when Favian found her, half starved and in rags on the street. I saw how he looked to her: handsome, enough so to look like a god. I saw him change her. She was thrilled to leave the depressed life she had: as a powerless women, violated, and living on the streets. I saw how caring Favian had been to her, explaining the life she would now lead. She thought that maybe... Maybe she loved Favian. They had had an affair. I saw that as time went on, she realized she didn't love him; they weren't matched yet, so they didn't belong together. So she thought.
I saw as time went by, they still remained close friends. She was second in command in his coven. I saw almost two thousand years pass by in the blink of an eye.
