Despite having been revising for the past day for his finals, Levi still couldn't shake the feeling he got at the dinner. It was like he felt guilty and he didn't know why. Elijah would've killed them all just as quickly. He wasn't their friend. Besides, it proved he would have tried to take Elena as soon as he decided it was in his best interests. So he helped to save his innocent friend.
Yeah, it was for the best.
Shaking his head free of those thoughts, he moved his focus onto the books in front of him. The constant drumming of his fingers told his mother otherwise. Grace moved over to the other side of the counter so she could look into the eyes she passed down to her son.
'Why don't you take a break?' she asked.
'No,' Levi sighed, 'I'm already late handing this in.'
'Again?' Grace shook her head at his son's lack of punctuality. She thought this being the last ever piece of work he'd ever have to hand in would inspire him to be on time for something for the first time in his life. Although knowing her son, he'd probably be late to his graduation as well. Levi was only ever on Levi time as she always says. 'What would you do without Mr Saltzman?'
'The same thing,' Levi truthfully replied.
Grace laughed, leaning over the counter to grab his empty mug. 'You're lucky you got my smarts, boy.'
'So I can think my way out of responsibility?' he asked cheekily.
'You got it,' she joked.
Levi smiled, feeling better. His mum was good at doing that but it did make him wish he could talk more about the problems he faced. If he could have asked her how to get Bonnie's magic back then he wouldn't have wasted the entirety of yesterday trying to figure it out. He just knew that if she knew an ancient vampire was in town threatening them then she would flip. She barely tolerated Stefan and Damon as it was and that was only because she knew that Levi was capable of defending himself with and without magic.
Grace placed a fresh mug of tea in front of Levi.
'Thanks,' he raised the mug to his mouth, almost making it before his phone started ringing. He sighed, wishing he was able to ignore it but knew he couldn't. That's never ended well in the past and someone might genuinely be dying knowing his friends. He answered, 'What's wrong?'
'Isobel's back,' Damon stated.
Levi's interest was immediately peaked, 'Elena's biological mother? Ric's wife?'
'Yep. Showed up on Elena's doorstep and introduced herself as much in front of Jenna.'
'What?' he quickly put his tea down.
'We're also going to the dead warlock's place. I'm already on my way so be ready. I don't want to have to wait outside again.'
Damon ended the call before Levi could say whether he wanted to go or not. Of course, he did, it was another warlock's place after all, but he didn't like Damon assuming that for him.
'What was that about?' Grace couldn't help asking, noticing the slightly put-off look back on her son's face. She pretended to be more interested in dusting the kettle, knowing he wouldn't tell her if it seemed like she was prying too much.
It still didn't changer his usual answer, 'Elena problems,' and it wasn't a lie. Every supernatural problem has had some connection with Elena, whether it's through her family, boyfriend or just being the doppelganger. At the moment it just seems to be everything.
'Oh, what's wrong?'
'Her birth mother came home and Jenna didn't know that she was alive or that Elena even knew about it,' he explained as little as possible.
