They stopped at the edge of the woods, far away from any public paths, or any paths at all. Levi gritted his teeth as the pain started searing. It was like his mind was on fire. His mum's words made more sense now his pain was getting worse.
Learning from the first time they sped away, Klaus held onto Levi until he felt the boy stabilise himself, quick to let go as soon as possible. Levi didn't look too well. His skin was pale, hair messier than usual, eyes tired and not due to a lack of sleep.
Still, he was able to notice the young female waiting beside a discreet black car. The girl smiled widely at Klaus, illuminating her dark eyes and rich brown skin. Her hair was pulled back from the front to fall down her back and show off her smooth complexion.
'This is Greta,' Klaus introduced. 'My witch.'
Greta walked towards them, her eyes finally falling away from Klaus onto Levi, ignoring Elena completely. 'This must be Levi. Hmm, handsome. Like father like son.'
Levi didn't answer, waiting for Elena to react to what she didn't get earlier. He rubbed the back of his neck only to remember that he was meant to stop doing that. Instead, his hands slid into his pockets.
Elena met his gaze with surprise. 'Klaus is your dad! Klaus?'
'That's right.' Klaus pushed Elena towards a small opening between the trees where Greta now stood. It didn't look very inviting. 'Levi will also be participating in tonight's event. You do want to help your friend, sweetheart, don't you?'
'Stop!' Levi demanded. 'Elena, no, I'm not,' he panicked as a flicker of betrayal sparked in Elena's eyes.
The spark didn't light. 'I know, Levi. It's alright.'
'It's not. Don't pretend, Elena.'
Elena looked sadly at Levi which only made him feel worse. She was too accepting of this. It made his frown more prominent when Klaus spoke up again.
'Take her and get ready. I have some business to finish.'
Levi glared at the smirk Klaus shared with Greta, as if this was fun, shaking his head as he passed Klaus to follow Elena. 'I'm not leaving Elena,' he said, sensing Klaus about to dispute his movement.
Klaus shut his mouth, standing still, thinking. He was running out of time before Levi would max out from their proximity. Keeping his distance for as long as possible until they had to start the sacrifice was the best thing.
'I'll be with you soon.'
Greta took charge, leading them through trees, somehow able to see when they couldn't. It was probably just because she was made to test run the route a stupid amount of times, Levi surmised. He stuck out an elbow for Elena to hold onto.
'Are you okay?' Elena asked.
Levi scoffed, 'Are you okay? I'm not the one being sacrificed,' he pointed out, feeling guilty because of said fact.
'My dad's also not a thousand-year-old vampire trying to become a hybrid.'
Levi looked down at Elena who raised her brows at him.
Fair point, he thought, shrugging. 'I don't know.'
'What did he mean when he said you'll be participating?'
'Apparently, because he's my dad and he's part werewolf, so am I. It also means my werewolf side is locked away by the curse as well.' Levi paused, deciding whether to tell her everything. The part that made him feel guilty. He'd probably feel worse if he didn't. 'The same magic that cursed Klaus also prevents him from coming near me.'
