I keep walking with my hand dragging against the wall. My breaths started getting noisier and it became a struggle to walk in a straight line. The monkey noticed this and suggested that we take a rest.
More like I take a rest. Do toys even need sleep? "No," I said, "I can keep going. It shouldn't be too long now, I can hear the yelling getting closer." That's a lie. I'm just being hopeful at this point.
Several minutes pass before I finally decided to sit down. I leaned my back up against the wall. Wow, it's actually much darker than I thought it was. Did it somehow get darker?? I think I closed my eyes but it was so dark I couldn't tell.
I think I was half asleep when I felt something brush up against my ankle. That immediately woke me up. With a start, I leapt up while I pressed my back against the wall. Then I heard the most spine chilling thing since I got here. I heard hushed whispering in the shadows. Like dozens of quiet voices were whispering over each other. Oh hell no.
That gave me enough of an adrenaline rush to sprint out of there. I didn't even bother with the wall, I just ran.
The darkness is a much scarier place when you run out of adrenaline and you can't even find the wall anymore. Great, stuck in the dark, alone. I don't even remember what happened to the monkey.
I just walked blindly through the hall with unshed tears in my eyes. The stress and anxiety of being alone- Wait. I stopped walking so that I could focus on the sounds in the hall. Then it suddenly hit me. There were no sounds. Even the screaming from Jason had been silenced. Well, this is unsettling.
What scared me most was not the lack of screaming but the fact that those whispers have gone dead silent. I walked and internally cringed at how loud my footsteps were then. The creaky wooden floorboards had no remorse and squealed when I stepped on them.
I leaned to the right, trying to find a wall again. I couldn't find the wall. Or any wall for that matter. Where did the walls go? Oh god, it's like swimming in darkness. Dark black waters. Waters of the ocean. An ocean full of horrifying creatures that can eat you in one bite, like that one just a second ago. Wait what if it's really fast and it's staying quiet now? What if it's following me? What if it's waiting for me to slow down so it can grab me and tear me apart or eat me?
My pace quickened until it evolved into a jog. No way will I let that happen. No matter how much my legs hurt I won't slow down. Not until I find a way out of the darkness and away from the danger. I won't slow down. I won't-
I let out a ruff grunt as I smacked face-first into something. Someone. I look up but it's still dark so I have no idea what I was expecting.
