Emma's PoV
I clenched my teeth and used as much strength as I could to kick Zain. Straight in the stomach, and he let go of me.
"I don't cut," I said, trying to make myself not sound afraid, or nervous.
Immediately, shouts saying things like:
"Liar!"
"Cutter!"
I did my best to ignore them.
"You think I cut, but I don't. But who cares what I say, right? Because I'm the worthless dust bunny that no one cares about. But-"
"Hey, hey! Enough with the chit chat, it's all bull sh*t you're talking about. And maybe that's why no one listens to you, ever thought about that?" Louis asked. My cheeks were so hot right now, I couldn't take all of this embarrassment.
"Everybody get to class!" the headmaster yelled through the speakers as the bell rang. Saved by the bell would be an understatement. The bell just saved my life.
As everyone rushed to get to their classes, I waited, hoping to go unnoticed. And I did.
Once the halls cleared, I hurriedly ran to my Economics classroom. And I ended up being late, but it was worth it. Well, sort of.
"Late as always, Ms. Weiss?" the teacher asked as I walked into the classroom. I nodded slowly and he pointed to a seat in the front row. It was in the corner and no one was next to me. And behind me was someone I didn't know to well. Dani really is my good luck charm.
I sat down and looked at the chalkboard to see what pages we were supposed to be reading.
As I was a answering some questions for the text, the door opened again.
"Mr. Horan, second day and your late. Take a seat next to Ms. Weiss." Horan? Was he some new student?
I heard his footsteps get closer and closer, and then I heard him sit down and get his books up. I looked up to see a blonde lad. He was actually kind of cute looking, but not in the way that I liked him. Besides, I didn't even know this guy, he could be just like everyone else at this school.
I returned to my work, learning about the French Revolution. Suddenly, a paper landed on my open notebook. A paper aeroplane, to be exact.
I shouldn't open it, but I wanted to. Where had it even come from? I looked around the classroom, but I didn't even need to. Harry wasn't in this class. And Justin didn't seem to be.
Then I looked at the new kid. He waved. So the aeroplane was from him. Without any hesitation, I opened it. Horan did seem friendly, so why not?
Hi, I'm Niall. I'm Irish.
That was all it said. I smiled a fake smile back at him, masking my sadness. He seemed extremely friendly and wanted to be my friend, but there's a big downside to that. And I didn't want him getting hurt. I didn't want Dani getting hurt either, but she seemed strong. Niall... not so much.
I tore out a small piece of paper from my notebook and wrote: I'm Emma. I'm... British.
Then I crumpled it into a small ball and threw it to Niall. The teacher wasn't even looking, he was reading a magazine.
I saw as he unfolded it and read it and then ripped out another piece of paper. He wrote something, crumpled it up and tossed it to me.
After I had smoothed it out, I read the message.
Lets be friends?
I didn't know how to respond. I didn't want to sound mean, so I just didn't respond and went back to the French Revolution. It was the least mean way. He was most likely wondering what was wrong, but I tried my best not to care.
