8; The Portal

2013 ― Svartalfheim
"Why are there so many shoes in here?"

"He's going to unleash it." Nikita Romanoff said to Thor as the two of them entered a cave. Thor finally brought himself to leave his brother's body as the wind and dust started to pick up. He needed to get Nikita somewhere safe, but she still felt uneasy knowing what Malekith was going to do. When he pulled the Aether out of her, she saw what his plans were.

"Not just on Asgard, or on a star. Malekith is going to destroy everything." Nikita said.

"How?" Thor asked, but when she gave no answer, Thor took a step closer to her. "Nikita, how?" He asked again.

"I saw him on Earth. Why would he go to Earth?" She asked.

"The Convergence." Thor said, and Nikita shook her head, automatically starting to blame herself.

"Oh god. None of this would've happened if I hadn't found the Aether." She said, looking down. Thor looked over at her and shook his head as he approached her.

"Then Malekith would've only possessed it that much sooner." Thor said. As Nikita heard his voice get closer she looked up, but she still felt a sense of responsibility. She shook her head with a frown on her face.

"I only found it because I was looking for you." She said in a softer tone.

"Nikita. ." Thor said in an equally soft tone as he laid his hand on the back of her neck, before running his hand down her hair.

"Now we're trapped here." She said as Thor continued to stroke her hair. Then they heard music playing and the pair both looked at each other confused.

"It's not me." Thor said. Nikita looked down into her bag and realized it was her phone that was ringing. She had no idea that she could get cell service up here.

"Hello?" Nikita asked.

"Hey, Nic. . where are you? You haven't been on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar. Nobody can find you. I thought you were in London?" The voice of Natasha Romanoff came through the phone.

"Nat? Where are you?" Nikita asked.

"I'm at S.H.I.E.L.D. where are you?" Natasha asked. Nikita took her phone off of her ear to see how many bars she had, but she was still completely amazed that she had service.

"Oh, this is amazing, isn't it?" She said to no one in particular.

"What's amazing? Nikita Julianna Romanoff, don't make me ask you again. Where are you?" Natasha asked, which made Nikita roll her eyes.

"How am I getting service here?" Nikita asked, still disregarding her sister, which was starting to make Natasha upset.

"Getting service where?" Natasha asked.

"Okay, Nat. . whatever you do. Do not hang up the phone." Nikita said.

"Can you just tell me where you are, please?" Natasha asked. She was on speaker and Thor smiled at the recognition of her voice.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just stay on the phone please, okay?" Nikita said.

"I will." Natasha said, and then Nikita saw it. A crushed soda can, a ring of keys, a rubix cube. The items that those kids that thrown through the portal, and the ones that didn't fall back through must've landed here.

"Oh my god." Nikita said to herself.

"Nikita, what is going on?" Natasha asked as Nikita picked up the keys and the cube.

"Nothing, nothing, Nat. Seriously, I'm fine. I'm a ghost assassin, I'm staying a ghost." She said, and then she turned to look at Thor. "Come on." She said.

"Come where? Who are you talking to?" Natasha asked.

"Where are we going?" Thor asked.

"Is that Thor? How the hell are you with Thor right now? He went back to Asgard, wait. . back up. Is he the guy you were telling me about from New Mexico?" Natasha asked.

"I have to go, Nat." Nikita said, hanging up her phone. Hand-in-hand, she and Thor walked deeper into the tunnel and Thor looked down.

"Why are there so many shoes in here?" He asked, and as they continued to walk, they walked straight through the portal.

They were back in London.

Sorry for another short chapter, but I liked that exchange between Nikita and Natasha. Nat's trying to get answers, while Nikita keeps brushing it off.
