Your girlfriend Ruby worked at her grandmother's diner and on the days, she was left to close up, you would always help her. The diner had already been cleaned, the two of you just had the kitchen to do but whilst you finished up in the seating area, Ruby had come into the room a dish in one hand and a glass in the other.

"Aren't we meant to be taking stuff into the kitchen, not back out here?" You said playfully.

"I thought we deserved a treat," she grinned, pulling two stools down off of the counter for the two of you to occupy.

You sat down next to her seeing a dish of chips that you were pretty sure she only grabbed due to the fact that there were some that were left unserved and would otherwise be thrown out. Next to that stood a tall strawberry milkshake, topped with a great mountain of whipped cream, two striped straws popping out from within it.

"A milkshake with two straws?" You smiled fondly. "How romantic."

Ruby leaned in to press a gentle and loving kiss to your cheek. "I'm sorry that it's not more. I know we were meant to go out for dinner tonight, but I got wrapped into working. You really shouldn't have stayed but at the very least I could offer you a makeshift date."

"Don't feel bad Ruby," you said softly. "You were helping your Grandma, it's sweet."

She rolled her eyes at you, popping one of the chips in her mouth as you pulled the milkshake closer to the two of you so you could actually reach the straw.

"Can I offer my lady a shared milkshake?" You said dramatically as though this was your idea even though you were none the wiser before this instance.

Ruby gave you a warm smile, taking hold of one of the straws so she could place the tip into her mouth, you copied her actions with the opposite one. Even though you knew how they made the milkshakes and made them sometimes if you were helping out in the kitchen, you always thought that Ruby's tasted better.

"This is perfect," you grinned.

"Honestly I would rather this than some fancy restaurant. I'm just happy to spend time with you," she said softly.

You couldn't help but smile at the woman you loved, leaning in to press a loving kiss upon her lips, just glad to have her there.
