Eithiel and Naro spent seven days living a completely mundane life, one that could be lived in an unknown inhabited island. Eithiel completely forgot about going back home, fearing it would involve crossing the dark valley again.
She gathered Naro was probably the only one who habited the other side of the strange island, if there were more, she didn't see them and Naro didn't talk about them. She tried to recall what he had said about the Island and perception but couldn't remember.
Naro's hut was little, it had a fire hearth at the middle and nothing else except a blanket that had been unused until Eithiel put it to good use. He also had a pet monkey called 'Na'. The man didn't even own a shirt.
They slept sitting, facing the hearth, their backs to the mud hat. Na slept outside with his kind and came back in the morning.
Eithiel and Naro mostly talked about what to eat, what not to eat, animals to watch out for, others to befriend, herbs for poisonous plants and antidotes for venomous creatures. He never asked Eithiel when was she planning to leave or talk about the fact that he, himself was supposed to only be passing by.
She felt a little bit misled. Why does this stranger know so much of the island but his belongings show temporary settlement?
On the eighth day, that day, it was Naro's turn to collect firewood and food which Eithiel guessed would be fish or a rabbit. She usually collected fruits which was a typical Zethriel diet but Naro had subtly complained that it wasn't enough to fill his stomach. Eithiel had also subtly ignored him.
It was midday and the hut was baking hot, she decided to sit at the base of a tree outside their little home, directly opposite the entrance. Naro disappeared every morning for a 'stroll' whether it was his or her turn to collect food. So, she assumed he would start searching for prey at noon.
The tree looked as comfortable as the one the fat tree man was sitting on but smaller. Eithiel took the blanket remembering Naro had no shirt, she was yet to get used to his annoying half-dressed state. The thought made her drowsy and her eyes became heavy. He can wake me when he gets back.
Eithiel sank to the deepest slumber and a vivid dream enveloped her mind. She dreamt she was on deck the Filthy rat's ship. It was dark but the ship had strangely docked next to a high protruding stone tower with an eye on top that emitted light wherever it looked. When the eye turned to them, lighting the ship, she couldn't see the end of their sails. The ship had become large, humongous!
Suddenly, the tower looked like a lamp compared to it. So big, yet Eithiel climbed up, and as she reached the top of the main mast, she could touch the moon and so she leaped from the tallest pole on earth. She leaped to land on the moon but fell on the sun and the sun was falling, it was falling through. She could see the sheets of universe curve to let it through and the ripple that ran after. All her memories, all the thoughts wiped out as the sun plunged, forever through the abyss
Eithiel landed and started licking her wounds, panting, she was weak, she was a deer. My horns are so long, they should have been my ears. Bruised, she darted her eyes around, "Is there a predator here?", her mind asked.
A large winged creature crept close in all fours, yawning. "Why do you nurse wounds that are yet to be?" it asked.
As the creature neared she felt something cold crawling up her arms, it moved to her wrists, curving round and round, the thing had come from the tips of her legs. Am I still dreaming? The heavy cold settled on her arms like an infant.
By then, all the sleep and dreams had left her yet she couldn't bring herself to look at her arms.
"Open your eyes little girl, the boy will be back soon" Blessed universe! Why me?
