Krista's pov
The lights from the gymnasium were going crazy with its laser sticks and disco balls. Big and shiny paper cut outs were shaped of stars and moons hanging up the ceiling. Rows and rows of tables awaited the guests. The stage had various types of flowers and ribbons that made you see it first hand. I saw the two red cushioned seats, empty for now, surely filled in later. The windows have been covered to block any natural light from penetrating. It made the inside very movie like.

It looked pretty.

I looked around and saw the peole have clustered together with their own groups. I recognized some of the girls I shared the locker for the swimming team. They all looked dolled up and were smiling happily with their dates. I moved away before they recognized me. I wasn't ready to make excuses why I missed the competition.

My feet dragged me into the farthest corner of the room. An isolated table near the emergency exit. It was quite dark and dull over here. Sure the table was decorated with the same pink cloth and plastic filled flower vase. But it was the only one that was occupied by one person.

Me.

I watched the clock above the stage tick past 6. According to the guy at the entrance the program will start soon. For now, I need to find something to kill time. I saw the door opened and people guffawed at the arriving party. I saw Enzo and a blonde girl came in.

The disco lights stopped and the room brightened. I saw him much clearly. His smile was the same I'm-a-good-guy vibe while greeting his friends. Others were just there for his attention. Some were there to stare and envy the pretty date on his arm. He wasn't the campus heartbreaker for nothing. Being popular pulled the students on wanting more. Everyone wanted to be close to him, become his friend or simply someone he talked to.

He walked calmly like he owned the place. A prince coming home and accepting their praises like the humble person he is. People were probably complimenting his $1,500 tuxedo and Rolex watch. Or perhaps a comment or two about his hair or his hand-made shoes. I bet my savings that he was wearing something that could feed a family of five. But as much as I hate to admit it he looked delicious.

I sighed. Only if his attitude matched the clothes, he'd be much more attractive. Sadly, beauty was only skin deep.

I shifted my gaze at the girl. She didn't look familiar but base on her looks she was someone guys would have probably been lining up for. Blonde hair, blue eyes, 32 double D's and a beauty queen smile. I wonder if her lips ever get tired smiling that wide. Not that it was an ugly kind of smile. But when I tried it, it hurt like hell.

They soon disappeared with the wave of the people that was gathered around them.

"I hope ya'll having a great time people!" Yelled Cassidy Nolan, the school's crowned Miss Inter-school the previous year and Vice-captain of our school's cheerleading team.

The crowd replied with an outstanding yell and whistles. The lights have shifted from the dance floor to the Emcee. With her bright smile and body hugging blood red gown, Cassidy was every boy's dream.

In her hand, she held the envelope that everyone had been waiting for.

"I bet ya'll know what this is, riiiight?" She waved it around for emphasis.

Another set of yells and applause came about. Cassidy was good at facing the crowd and making them interact with her. Sometimes I thought how I envied her.

"For this year's Mr. and Ms. Homecoming we have decided to deliver the voting with a twist. And here," she waved the envelope again, "is the list of requirements that the aspiring winners have to meet to earn the crown and the seats. So, are you ready?"
