S1:Ep3 New Flames

"Another one hundred percent, little bitch." Ashlynn huffed once she caught a glimpse of my computer screen. "Can you at least whisper the answers to me or something?"

I smirked and leaned over as I whispered, "Or you could, get this, study." I playfully gasped at the end and she slapped my shoulder harshly, making me laugh.

"Alright guys. Tomorrow we will be having.... you ready?" Professor Hiben paused for dramatic effect before spitting it out. "Case presentations!"

"Oh no," I breathed out, my eyes wide.

"Oh yes. Finally something you suck at." Ash mumbled like the hater she was.

"You guys will be fiine. But class is over, have a great Monday."

I slid my laptop into my backpack as everyone stood up and started filing out of the room. "CS was cancelled today 'cause prof got sick. Wanna swing by Vivian's job and mess with her?" I proposed and she nodded immediately.

"Hell yeah. She stole my favorite sweater and I need to get that bitch back."

So we both climbed into my truck and started down the road to the record store where my sister worked.

"So, some shit happened at practice yesterday.." Ash started and I hummed in response to show my attention. "Our best center fielder transferred to Oregon and now we only have one center who happens to be a senior." A sigh left my lips when I saw what she was getting at. "If only there was a center fielder with the arm of a canon who went to Stanford.."

"Nope." I mumbled and shook my head. "Not happening."

"At least just try out." She continued to pry at me and I continued to try to deflect it. "What's the worst that can happen?"

When I stopped at a red light, I gave her a look and stated plainly, "I could make the team."

Her eyes rolled as she laughed softly. "That's not the worst- come on. If you try out I'll do your laundry for the rest of the semester."

I dragged my eyes across her face before looking back at the road when the light turned green. "I don't know, Ash.."

"I'll do it for the rest of the year and I'll never drag you to another party." I snorted. "I mean it."

"All this for me to just try out?" I pulled into the parking lot and took off my seatbelt before facing her. "It's a little much, don't you think."

"I just know you, even if we've only been roommates a short time. I want you to do what makes you happy, not just what gets you by." My exterior softened at her reasoning and I felt myself nodding. "I'm not saying stop being an A student but... we won't be able to do this forever. Don't leave with regrets, leave with memories."

I casted my eyes down and felt a smile cover my lips. "Okay... when are tryouts?"

She clapped happily before yanking out her phone and scrolling down her text messages. "Next week. That's more than enough time to get you a little warmed up. Your last game was spring right?" I nodded. "Awesome, so you'll still have it. I can't fucking wait!"

"Calm down, I haven't made the team yet." I joked and climbed out of the truck. "Come on, I need some coff..." My sentence trailed off when I saw a certain someone walk out of the record store, her pointer finger pushing the glasses up on her nose. "Give me one second." I jogged over to her. "Hi- sorry." I chuckled when she jumped from the sudden sound of my voice. "Sorry." I said again.
