Chapter 12 The Set Up

The big day is almost among us. Homecoming. The countdown has officially begun with only a week to go. The football team having extra and longer practices for the big game. The cheerleaders preparing their biggest cheer performance of the year. Everyone getting pumped for the big game and then the dance after that. People buying their tickets and finding a date to the dance. Girls buying their dress and boys renting their tux. The homecoming court making sure they have enough votes to win.

I walk into school talking to Bianca and Liam about homecoming. "So, do you guys have dates yet" I ask. "Nathan ask me" Bianca says. "Oh wow" I say. "What did you say" Liam asks. "I said yes" Bianca says, "So are you and Wilde going together?" "Well no" Liam says, "But we are going to meet up at some point." "Why don't you two just go together" I ask. "Because" Liam says. "Are you afraid to come out" I ask. "Yes" Liam says. "Dude I came out-well was outed" I say, "But still, basically everyone accepts me and those that don't keep it to themselves." "Ya I know" Liam says, "But I'm just not ready."

Before I can say anything Amber walks up to us. "Hey" Amber says. "Hi" I say, "Can we help you?" "They can't" Amber says, "But you can." "Um what do you need" I ask. "I don't need anything" Amber says. "Then why do you need my help" I ask confused. Amber says, "I have this friend, Rose, she's bi and I thought you two could go on date." I blink at Amber and says, "Que?" (What) "Awesome" Amber says, "Here's her number."

Amber walks off. "No wait..." I say, "Damnit." "Smooth" Bianca says. "Shut up" I say walking to class. Liam and Bianca follow me laughing the whole way. We walk into the classroom and take our seats. "Not funny" I say. "Your right, its not funny" Bianca says, "Its hilarious." Bianca and Liam burst out laughing again. I groan and drop my head on the desk, "I hate you guys." "Yo Tambien te amo" Bianca says. (Love you too)

The bell rings signaling class has stared. About halfway through the period, my phone vibrates. I check my phone and see a text from an unknown number. Making sure the teacher isn't looking, I open the text. 'Hey Dakota, this is Rose Amber's friend. She told me you were down to go on a date with me, let me know when your free.' "Dammit" I whisper under my breath.

Once the bell rings, me, Liam, and Bianca walk to our next class. I show Liam and Bianca the text from Rose, "I need to tell Rose I'm not interested." I go to text Rose and tell her I'm not interested when Bianca stops me. "What" I ask. "Tell Rose that your interested and that your free tonight" Bianca says. I look at Bianca with wtf expression, "Did you not just hear what I said?" "I did" Bianca says, "Just hear me out." I sigh and say, "Fine."

"As I said before" Bianca says, "Tell Rose your free tonight." "Why" I ask. "Because that's when you will go on a date with Rose" Bianca says. I give Bianca a really look. "OK ok" Bianca says, "I'm officially putting the set up into action." "The what now" I ask. Liam says, "She said she is-" "I know what she said" I say. "Then why did you ask" Liam asks. I say, "Because Bianca-nevermind. What exactly is the set up?"

"It's my four step plan to help you figure out if Maddison is into you or not" Bianca says, "Step one, set up the date. Step two talk about it in front of Maddison. Step three, bring her as your date to Wilde's party tonight. Step four, see how Maddison reacts." "I don't know" I say. "What do you mean you don't know" Bianca says, "You have had the biggest crush on Maddison since freshman year. What do you have to lose?" "Why would Maddison ever be into someone like Dakota" Marissa asks.

"Because Dakota is an amazing person" Bianca says. "You never know" Liam says. "Please have you not seen Maddison, she is a goddess while Dakota is a peasant" Marissa says, "Maddison would never date anyone much less glance at someone like Dakota." I bite my bottom lip and look down at the ground. "Just like Kevin did with you" Bianca asks. "Damn" Liam says. "Oh shit" I say looking up to see Marissa is furious."You will pay for this" Marissa says walking off. 

 We watch her go and then look back at each other. We then burst out in laughter. Once we stop laughing, I text Rose back asking her to be my date to the party tonight. A few minutes later I get a text back from Rose telling me to pick her up and her address. "The set up is officially a go" I say.
