First dates are always scary. It's more scary when your date is super attractive. It's the scariest when you are a soc and your parents would kill you if they knew you were snaking out to meet a greaser. But Darry isn't just a greaser, sure I like him because he's different from the guys I'm around but he's really sweet and he has two brothers that he loves.

Darry and I met because we were grouped together on a school project. I would go over his house every afternoon and we would see how crystals formed and then wrote a report about it. After that, he asked me out, and I said yes.

"Y!" Darry whisper-screamed at my window. My parents were asleep but we still had to be quiet. "I can't go down the steps, they'll hear." I said back down.

"Jump," He said "I'll catch you." I looked at him all wide eyed. "Trust me. Why would I drop you?" I thought about it. "Ok" I said

I put my feet out and jumped down, Darry caught me.

"Wowie." I said, smiling at Darry. He placed me down gently, staring into my eyes.

"You look amazing." Darry said, grabbing my hand and leading me to his car. "So do you." I giggled.

The boy makes a black tee, jeans and a sweater look like the best thing ever.

"Where to?" I asked "Moonlit picnic in the park? Or we could go see a movie." He answered

"Picnic!" I said enthusiastically.

"Won't be nothin' special, my mom wanted to help but I didn't let her. All me." I smiled and looked at him the whole car ride.

"Here we are." Darry said when he stopped the car. "Wait here though." He took my hand off the door.

Darry went around to the back seat and grabbed a basket and then opened my door, helping me out.

"Such a gentleman Darry Curtis." I said to him, making him blush. "I believe a man should always make the girl he likes fell special, all the time," He said "My dad taught me that."

This stuck with me. I'd never been treated like this before. Soc boy show up for a date, late or tipsy, or both. He's different.

It's been about 4 years since Darry and I started dating, when my parents found out a couple months ago, they kicked me out and I moved in with the Curtis'. Darry just got home from work and Pony still wasn't home.

"Where is that little-" He said, but I cut him off "Hey, he'll be home soon, I'm sure there's a good reason." I said, hugging him and playing with his hair "Better be." He said, laying his head in the crook of my neck.

After a couple hours, Darry, Soda and I started to get worried "Where the hell could he be!" Darry yelled, making us jump

"Would ya quit yelling! It's not gonna do anything!" Soda screamed back. I took Darry in my arms before he did something dumb. "I bet he's ok." I whispered in his ear, making his tenseness fade.

At 2 am, we finally heard footsteps on the porch.

"Dammit Ponyboy! Where have you been! I've been worried sick!" Darry yelled "I lost track of time." Pony said

"What were you doing!" Darry asked in a angry tone. "I fell asleep int the lot with Johnny." Pony answered nonchalantly.

Darry screamed at him for a while before Pony slammed the door to his room and locked it. "I'm gonna take a shower." Darry said. He grabbed a towel and hopped in.

Darry got out of the shower and I decided to talk to him.

"Baby. I love you, but you need to let up on that boy. And don't give me shit about, "it's for his own good" if I had actually listen to what my father said was "for my own good" I would have never started dating you. Sometimes kids just need to be kids, and you know Pony didn't do it on purpose and he'll never do it to piss anyone off." I said and he slid a pair of boxers on and crawled into bed.

"You're right. You always are." Darry hit his head on the pillow.

"Soda's asleep on the couch." Darry said. I nodded, kissed his head and walked out of the room.

I walked to Soda, who was sleeping with his arms straight up and his legs straight out and gave his head a kiss too. Then I walked to Pony's room, I knew he was still awake. I knocked

"Go away Soda." He said faintly "It's not Soda." I said at the same volume, trying not to wake Soda. "Come in." Pony said.

I walked in his room and there were books all over the floor, his room was a mess. "What happened in here?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

"I was trying to find something." He says softly. "Why does your boyfriend hate me?" He says

"He doesn't hate you," I take a seat on his bed. "He loves you, a little too much. That's why he yells."

"I met your brother when I was around Soda's age. And when my parents found out we were dating, they kicked me out. But I never lost the love I had for them, ya know why?" I asked. "No, I woulda." He says, poking at his sheets.

"It's because they wanted me to have the life that they had, and better. What the didn't know was that I would have that no matter what, my life would have been the same. Darry reminds me of my father in that way. The point is Pony, that your brother loves you to the point where he's driven himself insane. He doesn't hate you.." I finally finished.

"Thank you Y." He put his hands out and hugged me. "Love ya." He said "Love you too." I answered back.

"Now, get to bed buddy, I have a feeling Darry's gonna wanna do something with you on his day off." We exchanged smiles and I closed the door.
