Luke's POV
I honestly never thought a golf equipment would be so heavy.
I had arrived to the golf course with my car, that was after picking my girlfriend up. So, of course, I had to carry the huge bag she had with her.
''Jesus, what's in here? Rocks?'' I groaned, pacing after her towards the green field.
Chloe's laugh rang through my ears, her eyes meeting mine, leaving me baffled, which always happens when she's in my presence. She's like a drug, she always makes me crave more and more of her, even though it's not healthy.
'' For your information, Hemmings, there are clubs inside, as well as balls and other equipment we need so we can play golf, '' she explained, slowing a little, so she could fall in step with me, ''And we're here, so you can leave it by the fence, ''
I breathed out in relief as I let the bag fall down to the ground, though careful not to break anything.
''Dad!''
As I looked up, I immediately recognized the serious face of Mr. Emerson. He was wearing a cream silk shirt and a tartan golfing cap, along with some khaki pants, leaving me dumbfounded because I had come in my usual black skinnies and a red flannel, gray snapback adorning my hair as I had it backwards.
I suddenly felt so out of place, because even Chloe was wearing a casual white short-sleeved dress with a pair of white flats and a similar white cap as her ombre hair was pulled into a delicate ponytail on top of her head.
She had reassured me previously, before we arrived here, that I looked great, even saying that snapback made me look extremely sexy, but now, it seems as if her words had fallen into the dust.
''Hello kids, '' Mr. Emerson greeted us, kissing Chloe on the cheek and offering a hand for me to take.
''Good morning, Mr. Emerson, '' I politely smiled, shaking his hand, making sure my grip wasn't too weak, nor too strong. Believe it or not, I was still nervous around him, and I feel like that will always be the case because I'm so scared to make a mistake and ruin the picture he has of me. It's pretty stressful, actually.
''How are you, Luke? Excited for the game?'' Mr. Emerson spoke as he gestured for the two of us to follow him.
''I'm thrilled, Sir, '' I responded as we walked towards the small restaurant near the field. Chloe nudged my arm to get my attention and when I averted my eyes down to her, I found her giving me a reassuring smile as her hand slipped into mine. She gripped onto it, swinging them back and forth as we walked inside.
''Ah!'' said Mr. Emerson, ''There's Eddie. Shall we go over there?''
He started making his way to the table by the glassy window, the two of us following wordlessly.
''Alexander! There's my man!'' an older man exclaimed, pushing himself up from the armchair he was sitting in and went to give Chloe's dad a hug as they laughed together, pretty loudly may I add.
''Eddie, it's so good to see you, my friend, '' Mr. Emerson stated, smiling down at the man, ''How are things? I haven't seen you since our deal in Perth. ''
Eddie, or Mr. Carson was, to say the least, a chubby little dude with moustache. He was bald, his face wrinkled as he was obviously way older than Chloe's father. His appearance was pretty much similar to Mr. Emerson's, just he was wearing an ugly brown jumper and had no hat on.
''Everything's good, thank God. Things are great, Mary even got pregnant with twins, would you believe it!'' Eddie laughed loudly, getting Chloe's dad's face to light up at the news.
