Kale's POV-

"Holy shit," the blonde headed guy gulped as she left the room with not even a backwards glance. Everyone in the dining room was stunned by her outburst.

I was angry. Angry at Lucy for talking to me the way she had, angry at these young warriors for doing something to set her off, and mostly angry at myself for not seating her close to me. I should have given her the Luna seat.

Rodriguez and I shared a wide-eyed stare until the guy on the ground let out a pained groan. "What did you do to her?" Cory questioned in a hard Alpha voice. The boy just let out another pained groan.

I knew that they must've sorely disrespected her because even that morning when Renee was blatantly trying to stake a claim to me, she stayed calm. I had never seen someone with such self-control. Therefore, I knew that they must've said or done something crazy to set her off like that.

I set my sights on the blondie that was still sitting in his chair too stunned to speak. I picked him up by his collar and brought him nose to nose with me. "What. Did. You. Do. To. Her?" I spoke slowly and menacingly as I stared at the boy in the eyes.

Both guys couldn't have been more than sixteen or seventeen. However, they were warriors and warriors were usually very crude, even at such a young age. I found myself raging at the possibilities of what was said to her to set her off like that.

"U-um..." The guy stammered with a mortified expression.

I was going full-on Alpha with him, and I knew I was extremely scary like that- half shifted and full snarl. I was pissed though. Pissed at these guys and whatever they said to her, at Lucy because I was halfway convinced that she was lying to me, yet half convinced that she was my mate, and at myself for letting myself believe that I could have a mate. I didn't have a mate! I thought that I had come to terms with that, and I was angry at myself because obviously I hadn't.

"Answer me, boy!" I commanded angrily.

"They basically called her one of your whores. A pack slut only after the Luna title," the girl who was sitting next to Lucy said, trying to keep the peace.

I growled in the trembling boy's face and gritted my teeth for control. "You what?!" I bellowed at him.

"I told y'all to respect Alpha Burke's pack and you immediately come in here and call one of his she-wolves a slut?!" Alpha Rodriguez said in disgust. He dropped the broken hand of the guy who was on the ground. The guy let out a pained whimper. "What exactly did you imbeciles say to the woman?"

"I-I'm sorry Alpha, I..." The guy who was still face to face with me started in terror. In his terror he didn't think about his words, he just spoke. He didn't consider my anger, and he didn't know as he spoke, he was speaking about a girl that I had a bond with. "...It started out as a compliment and escalated quickly. I just wanted her to know that I am available too if she wanted to have fun."

My grip on the boy's shirt tightened and my exposed claws began tearing holes in the fabric.

"We didn't mean anything by it! She was just acting so high and mighty saying things about how we're supposed to wait for our mates when she smells like nothing but you, Alpha Burke," the guy on the ground added quickly.

I growled ferociously while fighting for control of my body. My wolf wanted to rip the boy in my hands completely apart. He was speaking about Lucy in that way!

"He just told her about how much of a hypocrite she was being! She was acting like your Luna when there have been plenty of other girls in her position! Plenty of other much more qualified and enticing she-wolves," the guy said, trying to placate me.
