Kale's POV-
Everything about this situation had me on edge. I could barely control my rage as I stared daggers at the male who hurt her. Lucy squeezed my shaking hand, making me bring all of this into perspective. I needed to listen... Listen.
"Explain." It was an Alpha demand.
Dillon breathed deeply when he realized that I was giving him a chance. "There's no excuse," he stated solemnly. I agreed but let him continue. "I acted on impulse. She was questioning me on our training regimen, and I got defensive. I was trying to scare her; I did not know that the pup was going to hinder her ability to dodge my strike." He sighed and never once looked at Lucy as he spoke. "I am deeply sorry, and I accept any punishment you give."
"Are you? Are you sorry?!" I yelled animatedly. "You haven't once asked her how she is. You haven't even once looked at her to see the damage that you caused. You haven't once asked for her forgiveness." I was incredibly angry as I spoke, I felt my whole body vibrate wanting to shift.
Lucy stood up, though it was slowly due to her injuries, and swung my arm around her shoulders while keeping a firm hold of my hand that she had been holding. She nestled her body exactly right into mine while leaning onto me for support and rubbed soothing circles into my back with her free hand. She then affectionately nudged my shoulder with her nose giving me an opportune moment to breathe in her scent.
"So, are you sorry? Am I the one you should be saying that to?" I asked Dillon after I got myself under control.
"You are right, Alpha. Lucy, I am very sorry for my actions today."
She nodded once in acknowledgement. I didn't think he was being sincere enough, but us wolves are very prideful creatures. I knew that was probably going to be the best we got out of him.
"I am very regretful that I harmed you; I was just trying to scare you, not harm," he added.
"You are forgiven," Lucy said instantly without any indication that she would have even considered not forgiving him. "I understand... and I also get where you were coming from. It was my mistake to confront you like that. While your actions were not okay, I do understand. I am sorry that I came at you like that. Next time, it will be dealt with differently."
"Next time? No offense to you or to you, Alpha, but I do not understand why you should confront me at all... especially about the way we train."
Lucy sucked in a breath and closed her eyes; I could feel her body tense at his question. I saw her breathing in the calmness and zen energy while forcing herself not to react brashly.
"I am a part of this pack. If I see something wrong or unsettling to me, I will address it."
Her diplomatic answer surprised me, and I couldn't help but to be prideful of her.
"I mean no disrespect by it, but I'm not going to idly sit by and watch something go on that I don't believe is right," she said firmly.
"It is her right to do that, and it is your responsibility to be able to handle it and to not lose your temper." I stepped in before he could piss either one of us off even more. "As a warrior, I know that you're trained to attack, but you must learn when that is an appropriate response and when it is not.
"You are incredibly lucky. I hope you understand how close to death you were today. You should be thanking her and worshipping the ground she walks on for not letting me kill you. She stepped in, while her back was ripped to shreds by you, and still saved you from my wrath," I said in a very hard and cold voice trying to make him understand.
