Edward's pov
————————
I was dreaming of my life. How I was living in my house, mainly my hometown. I was walking back home from school, alone. It felt like the last day of my senior year, feeling like all of my grades were A's and saying goodbyes to my friends. I carried my books and my long bag that ran along through my left hip. I looked up, seeing that the sky was grey, almost looks as if it was about to rain. I made it home, closing the front door and stepping inside. My house was big, but not too grand like a mansion but it felt like it. My mother comes in from the kitchen and greets me by kissing my forehead.
"Hello, sweetheart! How was school?"
"It was perfectly normal."
"Good. Wash yourself and get ready. We're having guest coming in this evening."
"Let me guess, one of father's friends."
"Yes. You father is ranking up to Generalleutnant."
"Oh." I didn't really care much about the military or even have a desire to join the military. My father once forced me to enlist in the army, but thanks to my mom, she stopped him.
"I'll be taking a shower."
"Alright. Be ready. They'll be coming in time."
"Gotcha." I ran upstairs to take a shower, then starting to wear my attire. All of the sudden, my sister comes in and asks,
"Brother, where's Agnes?" She was talking about her one doll of the many dolls that she has. I shook my head in response.
"Edward I know you have it." At this point I was at my breaking point. Her shrill voice annoys me and I started to yell.
"I don't have it Gerda, so just shut up and leave me alone. You have other dolls in your room."
"Nein, Brother!! I know you have her! Reveal her to me or else!" She shrills. My blood boiled and I pushed her out of my room."
"Go away and leave me alone!" I raised my voice and shut the door. I heard her crying to her room. I huffed, sitting on my bed. God she was annoying at times. I assumed that she was going to tell, but I didn't care. I began to lay down on my bed, trying to get some sleep, but the disturbance of my door banged really loud. At first it was my sister, but realizing that the bang would've not sounded like that coming from a little girl. Realizing that it was my father. Scheisse.
"Edvard!! Open this door now!! I know your in there!!"
"Erwin, what's going on?" I heard my mother asking father.
"I've had enough of this worthless piece of shit!! Don't you even think of saving him or helping him, Helga!! Edvard!! Open this door! Now!!" His voice booms through the other side. My heart elevated and I have no intention of opening that door for that maniac. I instead opened the window, climbing down the pipe, sliding down and ran for my life. I could hear the crash of my door 50 ft away as I manage to get through the forest. I ran and ran for my life till I was out of breath, but I wanted to keep going, away from the house and away from that monster. I could feel his presence behind me, but I know he isn't. I tripped on a tree root and fell from a small cliff. I took a break from running and started walking slowly. I went straight out of the forest and in the big plain fields. It was massive and it extended outwards in front of me, but I took that risk. There was a small, dirt pathway, and so I journey into wherever the path will take me. It then began to sprinkle, but here was no stopping now.
"Edward?" I turned over to see that one of my closest friend, Bert. His real name is Berthold.
"Bert, what are you doing here?" I asked meekly.
"I could ask you the same thing. Here." He brought out his umbrella and we were both shielded from the rain. I sighed and told my sob story.
"Damn, you father at it again?" Bert asks. I only nodded and then responded.
"I'm so fucking tired of him. I wanna run away. Leave my house. Leave everything behind so j won't have to put up with anything anymore."
"What about your mom?" He questions.
"I love her, but you know she can't break up with him. I know it'll break her heart, but it's best for the both of us." I sighed as I brushed my hair back.
"I guess. Hey, are you thinking of meeting up with Ludvig Maxis." Bert spoke.
"Who?" I questioned, cocking an eyebrow.
"The professor."
"Well, he does look interesting. What major does he teach?"
"Science. I know you like it." He responded.
"Hm. That sounds like a plan to me. Are you doing science too?"
"Duh. Of course." He replied gleefully. I saw smoke out in the distance and my heart pounded, realizing what it could be.
"Scheissse! Mom!" I cried as I darted on back towards the house. I ran as it seemed like seconds before my very eyes saw the horror of my house being on fire. It then flashed forward to where I recalled the first met Maxis and then working alongside with him. I was in the backseat of a car, heading towards the university. Although, it wasn't like any university I've ever seen, it looked grim almost and looked like a military base. The car parked at the front and I got out. Security came out and asked for my name.
"Sir what is your name?"
"I'm Edward Richtofen. I was sent here by Maxis." I showed him the letter which Maxis sent to me. A few moments later the security nodded, handing me back the letter.
"Welcome Edward Richtofen." He let me by, opening the door and picking up my luggage, I went inside. Another man walked up to me shaking my hand with gladness.
"You must be Richtofen. I'm so glad you made it. Forgive me, I'm Dr. Gersh. Maxis is running some errands so he won't meet you anytime soon, but he requested me to show you where you will be staying."
"Oh. Of course. Thank you." I spoke with generosity. He lead me to my room, handing me my key and my ID.
"Enjoy your stay. Meet us at the west end of the building at 9:30. Maxis will see you then."
"Right. 9:30, thank you." He then shut the door and I began unloading my clothes and my other supplies that were all stacked in my luggage. I deeply sighed as I looked at the grey atmosphere, remembering that Dr. Gersh said that I could stay in my quarters for the remainder of the day since the traveling was very tiring. Since the atmosphere was calming, I figured that it be the right time for me to get plenty of rest. I sat down on the bed, surprisingly, feeling really comfortable, and drifting to sleep.
