Chris walked in a minute before math class was about to begin and during that time, Eva had sat at her desk, wondering where he was. She tried to hide the excitement that overcame her when she saw him walk in, so she looked down at her nails, the red nail polish was badly chipped and she thought about how it was time for her to choose her next nail color.
From the corner of her eye, she saw him make his way towards her and when he finally sat down at his desk that's right next to her, she looked up at him. He looked tired as she glanced at him taking out his pencil and notebook.
"Hey," a tentative smile danced across her lips as she watched him.
He settled his backpack on the ground and looked over, Eva's voice startling him, but he quickly composed himself and smiled back. "Hei," he replied as their math teacher walked in and began to set up for the math lesson.
He had barely gotten any sleep last night after helping his mamma to bed. He had coaxed her to do so, but she didn't want to listen and it wasn't until Chris promised her he would take her to breakfast sometime during the week, did she agree. It was moments like that where Chris wished he wasn't alone. "So you and Lukas?" Chris angled himself towards Eva so he could get a better view of her.
Eva was taken aback by the question. She would have never expected Chris to ask her about herself and Lukas. She was left speechless for a good thirty seconds as she gathered her thoughts and then she spoke, "What do you mean?"
Chris spoke at the same time their math teacher began the lesson, "I don't see how you don't understand," he bluntly stated as he lowered his voice. After speaking with his mamma last night, he had realized that he had let himself go. He was no longer at the top as the infamous Penetrator Chris, the hot guy that slept with whoever he wanted to sleep with, the guy who had not been tied down by emotions. He liked that guy. Actually, no, he loved being that guy. The admiration he'd receive from the female population and the envy from the male population added more fuel to his ego. It made him feel good. It made him feel loved.
He was slowly beginning to care, and maybe he didn't want that. He wasn't sure of what he felt anymore he just felt numb.
He had retorted with a smart ass comment, but Eva felt as if he had insulted her and she tried to hide the feeling as she calmed herself down, "Lukas and I have been hanging out a lot," she replied nonchalantly.
She picked up her pencil and began copying the formulas their teacher had written on the board onto her notebook, not sparing another glance at Chris.
Despite how hard he tried, Chris couldn't deny the fact that it bothered him hearing her say that. It bothered him that another guy besides himself had her attention, it was as if he couldn't bear the thought of not being the only guy in her life. However, he kept that to himself and replied the only way he knew, "I hope he doesn't disappoint," he said not unkindly, a trace of jealousy laced in his voice but Eva didn't notice it.
Still copying down the notes, Eva replied, "He won't," her voice even as she tried to sound confident, but she knew it was something she wasn't sure of. Actions spoke louder than words, so she was unsure, but she only wanted to seem sure in front of Chris. He had made it clear that he wasn't in the mood today.
Chris didn't answer. He just stared.
His green eyes were burning holes on Eva's head until finally, he forced himself to look away as he picked up his pencil and began to write. He thought about Eva and Lukas being together and it bothered him. He tried to listen to every single word that was coming out of his math teacher's mouth, but he found it more difficult as the minutes ticked by.
After what felt like forever, the bell finally rang and Chris felt relieved. He gathered his things and hurried out of the classroom without sparing Eva another glance.
He walked out the building and headed towards the courtyard as his eyes searched for any signs of William and the guys. He was unable to catch a glimpse of any of them, so he walked on over to their usual hangout spot and sat himself down. He took out his phone from his pocket and scrolled through all his social media platforms, catching up on the latest news. He was scrolling through Instagram the most, double tapping on photo after photo after photo until he was interrupted by a "Hei."
He looked up from his phone and was surprised to find that a single girl standing right in front of him was the source. He recognized her from when Eva had pointed her out to him, but he couldn't remember her name.
He was curious to see what she wanted, so he set his eyes on her– his phone and thoughts on Eva briefly forgotten. "Hei," he smiled confidently, not before slightly biting on his lower lip.
She inched closer to him, the smile on her lips never faltered, "I was wondering if you'd be interested in attending a Pepsi Max party this Friday. We're only inviting the best of the best and you happen to be one of them," she flicked her tongue across her lower lip as she spoke. "I'm Sara, by the way."
Hearing those words was exactly what Chris needed to boost his ego. Since the arrival of Lukas, he hadn't felt like he was at the top anymore and it bothered the shit out of him. But who was to say that Lukas wouldn't be invited too?
Chris pretended like he was thinking about whether or not to go, but he had already made his mind up when the words had slipped out her mouth. There was not a single chance he was going to miss this party. "I'll be there," he assured her, "I'm Chris," he grinned cockily.
"I know who you are," she smirked as her eyes twinkled with mischief. "You should text me sometime," she said as she started walking away, not giving Chris a chance to respond.
The confidence that radiated off her made Chris wish Friday would hurry up. He was curious to see who else the Pepsi Max crew had invited, after all, they were inviting the best of the best and he was excited to see how the event would unfold.
