The bad part is that existential vulnerability makes us vulnerable to all kinds of mental illness, such as depression, anxiety and PTSD, when we try to avoid facing our existential crisis and avoid painful emotions. Such avoidance of suffering actually contributes to mental illness.
The good part is that existential vulnerability makes us more resilient and emotionally mature, when we have the courage to confront our existential crisis and the emotional pain that often accompanies our struggles to find an answer. Paradoxically, by confronting and transforming our pain, the dark site of life and despair, we become more resilient, more alive and even happier. Hence, "life begins at the other side of despair."
