After Alice was tucked into bed, I rushed out of the vamp wing. If anyone saw me there they would know instantly that I wasn't meant to be Alpha. God, if Brandon saw me there, that would be it. I was walking up the stairs, when me phone buzzed. I glanced at the screen and sighed. It was Charn.

"What?"

"You and I need to talk. Meet me at the clearing."

"Fine. Be there in five. Don't wait up."

I phased and was off. I was a complete blur as I reached the clearing. All the battle scars from my practices were intensely staring back at me. Almost like they knew what was going to happen and were taunting me. I put my clothes down and phased back and put them back on.

"What do you want, Rick?"

"You might want to sit and hear me out. Okay?"

"Fine. But what is this about?"

"I wanted to talk to you about your powers. They aren't just the elements, Matt. They are way more than that and you need to hear it from me, instead of your parents."

"My parents? What the hell are you going on about? My parents left me. Remember?"

"Yes. I'm quite aware of that. You forget that I was the one that took you in. But, that's is not what I'm here to talk about. The past is quite foggy at times. You need to understand what your powers really are. You can control way more than just elements. They are just the basis for what you can truly do. I've been doing research like a mad man since you first started showing signs of powers. I finally found something that I believe that is what your true abilities are."

"What are you going on about? No lies and just tell me so I can get on with my night."

"Fine. You wanna get the short version or the detailed analysis?"

"Just fucking tell me!" I screamed, completely losing it. It felt like a wave rushed off of me

and crashed around us.

"Calm down before you destroy the clearing. What I'm going to tell you is not something that maybe shock your system to the breaking point and for you that maybe the end of me. You're an Empath. I don't have a ton on it; but I do know that the power for it is rare; unusual even. I can't tell what to look for or even what will happen. I just thought that you should know." he finished with a weak smile.

Staring at him, I took a couple steps back. I was shocked. what was I suppose to do? I didn't want my original powers. Now I'm learning that I have more than I was bargaining for. I needed to get out of there. Jack was waiting for me. I turned and started to walk away, mumbling that I would talk to him later. Letting the rush of anger take over, I was on all fours once again and long gone before Rick could stop me. I didn't know what to do. I was having enough trouble with the elements, let alone learning that I'm some kind of Empath. What was an Empath anyway? Making a couple of turns and I was at the lake again. Trotting up to the white house, I glanced at the windows. I noticed the bedroom lights were on and none of the others were off. Shifting back and getting dressed, I knocked on the door and received no answer. I opened the door and walked in and started up the stairs. As I reached the top. I noticed that there was candle light coming from Jack's bedroom. Smiling that he was waiting for me, I picked up my pace. In doing so, I tuned out the noises in the house. I was so focused that when I walked in, he was on top of the woman that I saw the other night. I lost it. Anger and hatred took over. I don't remember what happened, but when I came to, there was blood and limbs everywhere. I sat up and tasted blood. Knowing immediately that it was me, I stood, looking for Jack and hoping that I didn't hurt him. I heard someone move down the stairs.

"Matt? Matthew?!"

Shit. Rick was here. I had a feeling that Jack called him. But how did he know?

"Yeah, Rick, I'm up here. You may wanna bring a mop and a very large trash bag."

Coming into the room, he flinched. The look of fright and terror covered his face and I glared into the floor. I didn't want to disappoint my only father figure that I had known. He continued to glance around. From the look on his face, I guessed that he was using his ability to slow time and see what had happened. He's a Warp. They are rare and are held to a high esteem. He rose to Headmaster because of that power. Yet, I'm still stronger than him. I got to prove this on the year that I became Alpha. He was the stand in for when his son had died defending the pack's land. So when I turned 18, I immediately started training to challenge him. I won and chose not to kill him, but instead to have him as my adviser and Beta. He accepted and life went on. Now, I fear that I'm going to lose him. Foot steps filled the silence as I watched Rick scan the place. I turned and found myself face to face with Jack and he looked.... almost sad, not scared.
