I made my way to the Hayes household in record time. An upset Lucy was a great motivation for speeding. Well, not that I needed a motivation to speed, but still.
I climbed up the stairs of the huge porch and didn't make it two feet before the door swung open.
"About time you got here," Mason shrugged, but then gave me that golden smirk of his before turning around. "Lucy's crying has been driving me crazy."Insensitive, much.
He dragged his hands through his hair before disappearing upstairs. I couldn't help but watch him as walked away, my mouth gaping at his perfectly crafted behind.
"Hey Miranda," I smiled at Mrs. Hayes as she glided down the stairs.
I've been in this house countless times, but the sheer elegance of it never ceased to amaze me, owed entirely of course to Miranda's expensive taste. It was probably twice the size of our little apartment and three times as stylish.
"Leslie darling, thank goodness you're here. Lucy won't talk to anyone, my poor baby. Hopefully, you'll have better luck." She stopped in front of me, giving me a tight hug.
"I'll try my best," I shrugged. Ugh, feelings.
I ran upstairs as quick as possible and came to a stop in front of Lucy's door. There was a box of tissues and M&M's in front of it. I wondered for a moment who had left them there, before knocking.
"I told you, Mason, I want to be alone!" Lucy shrieked from inside.
Well, that explains the M&M's. It was kind of cute that he put in an effort to try and make her feel better.
"It's me, Luce, open up."
"Leslie, thank goodness!" The door swung open, nearly hitting me in the face.I barely bettered my discombobulated self at the sudden movement, before she came crashing into me.
"Oh Les, you won't believe it!" she dragged me into her room, closing the door behind us."He..." her voice broke, she looked at me with tear-filled eyes. "He's dating Ashley! I mean, of all people to date he had to pick Ashley! We haven't even been broken up for more than a few hours! And now with all these rumors going around about me! It's horrible Leslie! And him dating Ashley, I mean I know it sounds awful but it just makes me look like another one of his floozies, you know?" she ranted.
I let her finish before pushing her slightly away, looking her sternly in the eye.
"Now, you listen to me Lucy Hayes, you've been crying over that good for nothing Jake long enough, and I say no more. Okay, so he is dating Ashley, but we both know she's only good for one thing."
She gave me a disapproving look.
"Hey, don't look at me like that. You know it's true. You're the best thing that ever happened to that jerk and if he doesn't see it, well it's his loss. Now, move your ass and wipe away those tears, we're gonna go raid your kitchen."
As far as pep talks go, I'd say that was well, not horrible, I guess.
Lucy straightened herself, wiped away the rest of her tears and linked her arm with mine. She gave me a genuine smile.
"You know, it does make me feel better thinking about Evan Black probably crying at home right now over that massive shiner you gave him."
We both burst out laughing as we headed downstairs.
Typical Lucy. One minute the girl balls her eyes out and the next it's as if nothing ever happened."Is that laughter I hear," Lucy's dad, David came up from behind us and lifted us both into a massive hug. Lucy started giggling while I groaned dramatically, "Air...need air."
