I sat cross-legged on my bed, reluctantly doing my homework.
I know right? What high school student actually does homework?
Well, soul-sucking boredom will do that to a person. That, and desperately trying to keep your mind occupied. In my case, homework was a feeble attempt to keep my thoughts from gravitating back to a certain quarterback.
After my discussion with Lucy today, I still didn't know how exactly I was going to approach Mason.
I was more motivated than ever to see my plan through, which meant I required Mason's forgiveness. And, maybe a small part of me genuinely craved for it, too.
I picked up my phone, deciding to swallow my pride. I went into Mason's chat and braced myself.
Me: Hi.
I quickly locked the phone and put it under my pillow. Okay, so it wasn't exactly a risky text, but it got my heart racing at twenty miles an hour, nonetheless.
After fifteen minutes of getting no reply, I picked up my phone again.
Me: We can have that long-awaited sexy talk if you answer me.
Okay now that, was risky.
Unable to stop fidgeting, I decided to go take a long shower, to reflect on my actions. When I was done, I painfully regretted sending him that text.
Slowly, I approached my phone like it was a raccoon with rabies. I pressed the unlock button and saw Mason's name on the screen.
Relief flooded me.
Mason Hayes(that irritating guy): What do you want?
Me: I just told you, I want sexy talk.
Mason Hayes(that irritating guy): I thought you might want to reserve all that for Nate. His kissing skills not as good as they say it is?
Letting out a sigh, I thought for a moment before answering.
Me: Actually, no it's not. It felt like kissing a fairy princess. His face has more lotion on it than mine.
That had to have gotten a laugh out of him.
Mason Hayes(that irritating guy): You wouldn't by any chance have something to do with his broken nose?
Busted.
Me: Maybe... The fact is, you have nothing to worry about. Not where Nate is concerned.
Mason Hayes(that irritating guy): I thought you wished you never met me?
Me: I may have been a little riled up when I said that. I'm not Leslie without my short temper. One doesn't exist without the other.
And the next moment he called me. My heart started racing as I brought the phone to my ear.
"Missed the sound of my voice, Mason Hayes?"
Loud music came roaring through the phone and I frowned. "Where are you?" I asked, all amusement out of my voice.
"At a club," he snickered, his voice barely audible over the loud music.
I clenched my jaw. "You're drunk," I said flatly. I could hear it in his fricking voice.
"So what if I am, Carebear," he purred, rolling the last 'r'.
