After taking an extra long shower, trying to get all the grains of sand out of my hair and other extremely uncomfortable places, I remained in my towel, staring at the outfit laying on my bed.
The shower, unfortunately, had done little to ease the butterflies that were still dancing around in my stomach, and looking at the sundress didn't help one bit.
It would be weird if I wore a dress, right? Like I was trying to impress him or something. Well, I mean, I was kind of trying to impress him.
Man, I suck. Going all ditsy over one boy. A gorgeous, heart-shatteringly perfect boy, but still.
It was the only sundress I owned and there probably wouldn't be another opportunity for me to wear it any time soon, right? And it was pretty. Not that I really did pretty. Actually, I didn't really do first dates either, and yet here we were.
Okay, I'm rambling.
Without allowing my unhelpful brain to overthink it any further, I snatched the dress from the bed and pulled it over my head.
It was hot here in Miami, even though the sun had already set, so I simply pulled on a pair of sandals and blew out my hair before tying it into a loose ponytail.
Downstairs, Lucy and Carlos were waiting for me. I looked around nervously for any sign of Mason but mercifully, he was nowhere to be seen.
"You look great, Les," Lucy smiled at me.
"I'm freaking out guys," I blurted and I started pacing in front of the couch they sat on.
"I mean, what do you even do on a date?"
Lucy giggled before standing up to take my shoulders, stopping me mid-pace.
"Relax, Les," she soothed, "You're overthinking this. I mean, you've gone out with Mason alone plenty of times before, right? This is no different.""I know Lucy," I said with an edge to my voice, "But this time, this time it's a date," I yelped.
Carlos started chuckling and I gave him a very inappropriate gesture. "Don't make me tell little old Lucy over here about all your mini panic attacks before seeing her," I threatened, my eyes narrowed.
That sure shut him up.
"It'll be fine," Lucy said as she started shoving me towards the door. "Mason's waiting for you outside."
I glared at Lucy as she pushed me out the door and closed it behind me. I turned around and found Mason sitting on one of the benches, watching the ocean.
"Took you long enough, Carebear," he hummed as I approached him.
My heart instantly began to speed up as I took him in. He was wearing dark blue pants that stopped above his knees, with a white shirt that fit him snugly and flip flops. His hair was as messy as usual and he was sending out some serious surfer vibes.
Plus, his outfit did wonders to emphasize every perfectly defined muscle. He looked scrumptious and I'm pretty sure any minute now I would start salivating."So, Mason Hayes, you got me all dressed up, now all that remains is telling me where we're going."
He gave me a bright smile. "You'll see."
"Should I be scared?" I asked skeptically.
"Definitely." He smiled at me crookedly and the sight of it- of him, getting up and standing there in the moonlight made my heart melt, into a small little puddle along with all my other inhibitions.
I wonder what would happen if I were to jump his bones right then and there...
I didn't find out, though.
