My legs wobbled and I desperately gripped Mason's arm in an attempt to stay upright. I dug my nails into his warm, muscular shoulder and tried to steady my breathing.
He was enjoying this way too much if you asked me.
Taking another deep breath, I found my inner chakra and tried to stand up on the surfboard again. I slowly released my grip on Mason, who sat firmly on his surfboard. And just like all the other times, I stood for about two seconds before losing my balance and crashing, rather awkwardly, into the waves.
I broke the surface with a gasp and wiped a wet strand of hair out of my face.
Mason floated lazily on his surfboard, bellowing at my absolute lack of grace.
You would think someone who has been playing sports all her life might have been a tad better at this.
Well, at least Mason would get a nice tan out of the whole thing, since his so-called surfing lessons mainly consisted out of him having a grand old time as I frantically tried to keep myself from drowning.
Finally deciding that I had enough for today, I got into a sitting position on my surfboard and rowed it over to Mason.
"You only did this to torture me, didn't you?" I asked drily.
Mason snickered and held his hands up in innocence.
"How was I supposed to know you were going to suck so badly?" he bellowed, "I'm not complaining, though, it's very entertaining to watch."
I narrowed my eyes and splashed him, aiming for that smug smirk.
Neither of us had brought up the events of last night. I guess technically, it wasn't the first time I fell asleep in his arms. And I did slip out of his room fairly early that morning, careful not to wake him. Back in our room, Lucy probably hadn't even noticed I was missing, seeing as she was peacefully nuzzled up to Carlos.
If their parents only knew what was going on right under their noses.
I had expected Mason to keep ignoring me this morning, despite our heart to heart, but he was refreshingly decent to me. So much so, that he offered to give me surfing lessons.
I wasn't specifically keen on the idea, but I figured it would annoy the drooling girls on the beach immensely, so I agreed.
Still deeply absorbed in my thoughts, I didn't notice when Mason gracefully slid off of his surfboard and disappeared underneath the waves. Or when he appeared next to me and flipped my surfboard over.
I was abruptly engulfed by the salty seawater, the waves once again devouring me as they crashed over my head.
"I'm going to kill you," I choked out as I managed to get my head above the waves. Mason was already getting back on his surfboard, chuckling at my disorientation.
I swam over to him and sprang onto his shoulders, pressing his head under the water. I made it a point to swim away immediately, but Mason grabbed my leg before I could and pulled me towards him.
Whilst thrashing and pushing to free myself, I swallowed a mouth full of salt. My objections were futile against his firm grip and the crashing waves galloping over my head.
He grabbed me by my waist and I made a very unladylike sound as he pulled me against him and somehow managed to tickle me while simultaneously dunking my head under the waves.
"Okay!" I conceded, but he dunked me again. "You-" Another dunk. "- Win!" I panted.
