Smile at them

I watch in the background, a faint smile on my face. Sure the past hasn't been the best, but this is a sign that good can still happen. I watch as two people who fought and wouldn't even look at each other smile at each other and laugh about something their friend said. I twirl my black umbrella around, the rain spinning off of it. They don't see me. They aren't meant to. But I will always be there when they need me. For now, I'll stay in the shadows, silently watching. Not because I'm creepy, but because I care. For me, I'm tired and sad, but this makes me happy.

Try it. If someone needs you. Watch out for them. Even if they push you away. Just stay there and watch over them. You're special and amazing so don't worry about whether you matter or not. You do. You will always mean something. Believe in the small acts of kindness around you. Focus on those. Sure, the world ain't perfect. But these are the moments that we need. The times when life goes right for someone you care about. 

I wish you all the happiness in the world. 

I smile one last time and look up at the sky, the rain falling on my face. I sigh and walk away into the rain, disappearing from the scene. 

I hope happiness will stay with them.
