The first thing that comes into sight as I open my eyes is a jaw line. Its covered in dark stubble but it doesn’t stop the urge I have to nuzzle it. In fact the stubble almost makes me want to do it more. The smells of cinnamon and apples invade my nose as I cuddle deeper into Gideon’s chest. He makes a noise deep in his chest and I bite my lip to stop myself from groaning at the sound as he holds me closer to him.
Gideon demanded I sleep beside him so he could keep an eye on me. At first it was sort of uncomfortable and weird sleeping beside someone, I’ve never done it before but once he fell asleep he threw a limp arm over my middle dragging me into him. After that I couldn’t help myself but fall asleep in the comfort of his body turning into a cocoon around me.
Honestly, I think it wouldn’t be hard to become addicted to it.
Sighing happily I think maybe I already am.
I’m not in pain anymore but I am a bit sore from last nights…dream? Nightmare? I don’t know what it was but it was very much real. The claw marks on my body made sure I knew that much. Of course you can’t seem them now since Orin was kind enough to rub his amazingly quick healing blood on them. Now I’m sure I look as fresh as a daisy.
I’m not sure if I should just go with the flow or be unsettled with how comfortable I am with all this…insanity.
Oh dear lord the irony.
“I know you’re awake.” Gideon murmurs in a morning voice that could make any warm blooded being drool like a fool.
I lean my head back to meet half lidded purple eyes, “You’d make a great detective.”
He rolls his eyes but grins down at me all the same, “Its too early in the day for you to be such a smart ass.”
“Hardly.” I grin.
Suddenly he face falls and he caresses my cheek, where the claw mark was last night and I wince a bit at his touch. It doesn’t sting really but it feels tender and maybe a bit bruised.
“I am so sorry.” He says quietly, “I-I didn’t know this would happen.”
“I know.”
“I’ll protect you, you know that right?”
I smile softly and run a finger along his jaw line, “I do know that but I also know that when it comes down to it I need to know how to protect myself.”
He frowns, “What do you mean?”
“I need to get my…abilities together. I still don’t know exactly what I can do or not. If I figure that out maybe I’ll have a better chance if this shit happens again, don’t you think?”
“You wont be alone so it’s really not that—“
I quirk an eyebrow at him, “You can be in denial about this all you want but I can’t rely on you to protect me all the time, Gideon. Its becoming a full time job these days and I’m sure you want time to sleep and besides…I may get really annoyed with you with you attached to my hip.”
Gideon snorts but I can see the amusement in his eyes, “That’s impossible.”
“Now who’s being the smart ass?”
