Chapter 2

The week leading up to the test went rather well. Meeting team CFVY turned out to have a positive turn out since you got someone other than Qrow to spar with. Although truth be told you still enjoyed training by yourself and would do so whenever you had the chance. 

This turned out to be tougher than you first expected it to be. The reason being that Velvet (the rabbit Faunus that introduced herself to you while her teammates were sparing) seemed to make it her mission to have you spend time with her team. It did seem to lessen a bit once her team leader Coco learned of this and started teasing the both of you about how close you two seemed to be despite just meeting each other no matter how hard either of you tried protesting.

Today was the day before the test. All the other students who had yet to arrive were scheduled to arrive today around noon. You decided to get to the arena before any of the new or older students arrived just in case someone decided it was a good idea to do the same because you wouldn't be getting this luxury tomorrow. These plans were changed however when upon entering the arena you found Yatsuhashi Daichi standing in the center of the arena doing what looked to be katas with his sword.

Stepping into the arena you already decided to try and spar with the man. He was good with that sword of his and you could use a spar for a warmup instead of your usual routine of push-ups and sit-ups. 

"Good morning (y/n). Decided to get some practice in?" Greeted Yatsuhasi.

"Yeah. Seeing as I'm not going to get that luxury tomorrow might as well do it today. Speaking of practice, mind sparing with me for a bit? It'd be better than just doing muscle building exercises all the time."

"I don't see the harm in it. I could use a little warm up myself." He said while getting into a fighting stance. "Tournament rules?"

"Tournament rules."  You replied getting into your own stance and putting on your gauntlets. Bringing up your fists so they were just under face level you started trying to guess what Yatsuhashi's first movements were going to be. Although you had spent a week in the company of team CFVY sparing against most of the team you rarely sparred against Yatsuhashi. The only one you had sparred with less was Velvet as she said she was saving up for the Vizel festival later this year. 

With an unspoken signal, both of you rushed at each other. Ducking under a horizontal swing you decided to go with a light jab with your right fist towards your opponent's stomach. You were met with air as your opponent had jumped out of the way once he realized that he didn't hit his target.

Without wasting a second you charged at him. This time with a right haymaker to his face. Your fist was firmly met by the flat of Yatsuhashis blade as he blocked your attack. Lashing out with a kick to your stomach Yatsuhashi sent you flying back a few feet before rushing in and smacking you in the face with his sword sending you to the ground.

Not being one to stay down for long you used the momentum created with the last strike to roll yourself up into a crouching position. from there you leaped backing hoping to create enough distance to inject some earth dust into your gauntlets for some heavy attacks. Before you could complete this plan however Yatsuhashi was on you again this time He was looking to end the fight with a slash towards your chest. You managed to grab one earth dust from a pouch you had on your left thigh and get into your right gauntlet just in time to block his attack.

Using this opportunity you lashed out with a right kick to the back of his knee forcing him to kneel for a few seconds. Using the time you just got you reached into the pouch on your right thigh to grab an ice dust and place it in your left gauntlet. Getting ready to use your now ice encased gauntlet to freeze part of Yatsuhashi's hand that was currently upon his chest you were interrupted by the sudden feeling of floating.
