Today was the first day of battle class. In this class, a student would volunteer to fight someone of their choosing. If no one volunteered or if the person selected by the volunteer refused to fight, then the teacher would choose. The fights are mainly held in tournament style. This was to get the school ready for the Vytle tournament that would be starting in a few months.
In today's class, a few fights have already happened, but one, in particular, was the fight between Jaune Arc and Cardin Winchester. As with all the matches, The lights outside of the arena were dimed. Whether this was for dramatic flair or to allow those fighting to not be distracted you had no idea.
When the match had been started you had expected to see Jaune to pretty well seeing as he was the leader of team JNPR. The match was completely one-sided in the favor of Cardin.
If you didn't know any better you would say that Jaune was just some farm-hand that had somehow gotten into Beacon with how poorly he was using his sword and shield. Whenever he would go for an attack he would prepare his strike long before he even was within striking range. This gave Cardin more than enough time to block, parry, or dodge his attack and perform a counterattack.
The only thing that he seemed to know how to use was his shield although not very well. Whenever Cardin would go in for a strike Jaune would quickly raise his shield to defend himself. However, this wasn't enough to beat Cardin as he eventually lost his shield and then the match. With a buzz, the lights outside of the arena came back on. Two screens also popped up with a picture of Jaune on one screen and Cardin on the other. Under the pictures were bars that indicated each person's aura level. Jaune's was in the red while Cardin's was still all the way full as a healthy green.
"That's is enough" Spoke Glynda as she walked onto the arena. "Students, as you can see Jaune's aura, has fallen into the red. In a tournament, this would mean that Jaune us unable to battle and the official may call the match."
Glynda proceeded to look over at Jaune and give him a small lecture about paying attention to one's aura. Once she was done with her lecture she dismissed the class for the day.
When it was lunchtime you had planned to sit quietly with your team and just eat. However, team RWBY and team JNPR insisted that you and your team join them for lunch. You were going to decline, but the rest of your team had already moved to sit with the others. Not wanting to sit by yourself you joined them and just listened to the conversation that was currently going on.
"So there we were in the middle of the night." Spoke Nora.
"It was day," Said Ren sounding like this wasn't the first time he had to correct his female friend's story.
"We were surrounded by Ursai"
"Beowolves."
"Dozens of them!" Shouted Nora suddenly getting up from her seat.
"Two of them."
"But they were no match. In the end, Ren and I took them down, and made a boatload of lien selling Ursa skin rugs." Nora said while sitting back down with a smug look on her face.
"She has been having this reoccurring dream for nearly a month now."
Looking over to the other side of the table you noticed Jaune was picking at his food.
"Hey, Jaune are you okay? You look like something's bothering you." You said with a hint of worry in your voice. You didn't really know him that well, but you do know that as a team leads it was his (and therefore your) job to look the best in front of his teammates.
