Obi's mother came back to the house angrier than she was at first. She had a quick bath before rushing out of the house. Tobe and the girls were roasting palm fruits(nkwụ) and eating them with salt. They brought some to Obiefune and he had to wipe out enough dust before chewing.

Obiefune looked at Ifenna's oil colored teeth mixed with ash as she gleefully donated her own portion to him.

"Were, nkem buru ibu" Take, my own is bigger*

Obiefune took the reddish warm nkwụ from her and wiped them with his hands, dipping into the salt spread on the plate and chewing slowly
Obi had taken longer than he expected, even though it had something to do with Chioma who was as red as an apple.

As Obiefune chewed on his gifts, the children kept supplying him more. He had noticed how upset Obi's mother was and decided to find out from Obi, the issue, even though he suspected it was because of the man he saw from afar, who seemed to be arguing with Obi's mother earlier.

Chukwudi approached him holding something that looked like roasted meat in one hand, then nkwobi(meat pudding) in the other hand. Obiefune quickly recalled the last time he saw Chukwudi and the request Chioma made from him. Chukwudi scanned him then slowly let out a greeting.

"Kedụ"*How are you? *

Obiefune forcefully returned his greeting with a smile.
He scanned the area, then proceeded to question Obiefune.

"Obi kwanu? Where's Obi? "

Obiefune spat out the fruit in his mouth having chewed on sand, then replied Chukwudi

"O nọ n'ime? Is She inside?"

He hesitated for a while before asking him of his sister.

"Chi kwanu?where's Chi? "

Obiefune couldn't hide his distaste in how friendly he had become with his younger sister. Why was he calling her chi instead of Chioma?

Obiefune kept his eyes on the empty plate, replying him slowly irked by the picture of familiarly Chukwudi was painting of his sister.

"nọkwa n'ime, She's also inside ".

Chukwudi came to where Obiefune sat, dropped the two objects in his hand, settled down and tore out a huge chunk of the roasted meat then turned to Obiefune.

"were, take"

Obiefune hesitated for a while but remembered Obi's admonishment and decided to ease a bit around Chukwudi.

He grabbed the piece of meat and took a bite, it tasted so good that he had to request  for another when he finished the first one.

"I roasted it myself, my mother said I should show her how good my skills are"

Obiefune smiled at him"it is very good, very tasty. Your father did a good job, he taught you well"

Chukwudi laughed heartily, replying as sudden somberness enveloped him "My father didn't teach me, my mother did. My father died when I was very young"
