"Moving on is not about forgetting an impediment or erasing a horrible occurrence, it is about learning to live each day with the scars left by the wounds from our past, treating the hurtful memories like a part of a process to acceptance. If you don't deal with it, it'll haunt you. If you run from it, it'll catch up with you. "
Benjamin told Obi as he drove her back to the house. She had stayed at the clinic for three days.
Her father was left alone with her siblings and she only worried about them. Benjamin had been the one keeping her company, he always spoke to her about His late mother which Obi found strange. She was dealing with her own loss but the constant talk about a woman she never met made her uncomfortable. But after giving it a thought she realized that maybe she needed to hear about the woman.Benjamin must have adored his mother so much, he even kept calling Obiukwu" nne" and for once in her life she hoped he would call her Obiukwu or probably taunt her
He was a handsome young man and when Obi had heard that he was 26 years old. Obi had thought he was about 23 years old, because he did not look that old.
He was also tall and light skinned just like Obiefune but his smile didn't make her heart thud dangerously, his face was not as beautiful as Obiefune's and for once Obi thought of the repercussions of her hasty decision. She was not in any way attracted to the man and she was clearly not in love with him. How would she cope being married to a man she didn't love?.
Benjamin mentioned that he had a friend that stayed in the village and excused himself to see him. Obi decided to rest for a while, she knew that when she gets back to their house, that chores would take over, so she decided to enjoy her rest for few more hours .
The door creaked and Obi heard someone enter, she opened her eyes to see a girl about the twins age. Obi looked at the girl and was surprised. She was expecting her father, Benjamin or even the nurses not a strange little girl.
"Is this the lavatory?" the little girl asked scanning Obi's room
Obi got up from the bed stunned by the girls question, "How did her room look like a lavatory?"
Isi gini? What did you say? "
The nurse said I should use the pee in the lavatory, I've been looking for it" the little girl insisted
Obi got down from the bed after taking a hint of what was going on. The girl was pressed and could not locate the loo. Although Obi was surprised by how the nurse used lavatory instead of loo.
She took the little girl by hand to the loo close to her room and helped her clean up after urinating."Where is your mother?"
"Oh my mother is in heaven" the girl replied smiling
Obi felt like her life was now filled with people who were motherless like she was. There was Benjamin and now this little girl
Obi gave the child a weak smile before asking of who she came with."My Nana, my aunty and I came, she's doing some testing.with the doctor"
Obi wanted to enquire of her nana''s current location in the hospital but the girl kept talking
"The nurse did a testing, she said my nana is pregnant."
Obi smiled at the girl, it was a good news. Maybe her nana was her step mother and she was probably going to get a sibling."Stop smiling, nana said it is impossible! " Obi was stunned by the girl's words.
Why would her nana not want to be pregnant?
Especially if she was married to her father, Obi sighed at the near experience of pregnancy that she almost found herself in.
