"You know I can actually cross a road by myself" Obi insisted as Obiefune safely tucked her hand into his as they made it pass the road to board another bus. Obiefune ignored Obi's protests and safely crossed her to the other side of the road.
"I wonder why I find it hard to believe" Obiefune spoke with a smug smile on his face. "Obi a car sped by and you shivered! Honestly you need more exposure."
Obi smacked Obiefune's back "I can still cross by myself, I know the rules. You look left, right, then left again before you cross" Obi retorted
"You read a lot which is good, but there's a big difference between what you experience and what you have in your mind"
Obi looked around capturing the beauty of their current location. Obi had once read in a book that the state was named Enugu derived from the two Igbo words, "enu(top) (ugwu) mountain"
The name did justice to the hilly topography the state had. There were also mountains and Obi couldn't wait to see what the universe had in store for her that day.
A part of her became worried because she knew her father wasn't expecting her and it would be a waste of time if he wasn't around to see her.
Obiefune noticed her sudden change in demeanor and asked if she was okay. "Do you ever keep your eyes off me eh nwa a?"
Obiefune couldn't hold his laughter. "This is why most men who have tried to understand women run mad. If I'm not looking at you, I'm very sure you would be complaining"
Obi took note of the bus stops and how organized the state was. The first bus stop they sped by was Gariki and she wondered what the bus stop was named after. Gariki didn't sound igbo
They also sped by the bus stop that led to the state university teaching hospital popularly reffered by its acronym ESUTH.
The scenery before Obi as they drove reminded her of certain books she had read. As they approached a huge cathedral that Obi feasted her eyes on, Obi couldn't help but notice the rail tracks that ran through the paths they were headed.
Obi read out the name of the church quietly as her eyes widened at the size. No church in her village was that enormous and they did have a cathedral. Obi closed her eyes picturing herself in a wedding gown being wed at a huge church like that. The church had the name boldly written on the walls "The holy ghost cathedral". Obi was still drinking in the image in before Obiefune pointed out another place to her.
"This is ogbete market, one of my class mate's father sells things around here. I wish we had more time I would tried to locate him, I can fairly remember the location of his shop".
The rail tracks Obi saw made her belief to an extent things about her father which she had found herself questioning."There were rail tracks which meant the man might actually be working in a railway station".
They progressed to another place is called zik Avenue, The place was named after one of the historic legends in the south eastern region Nnamdi Azikiwe, which people referred to as Zik for short.
