A/N: hello peoples

how did we get to 300+ reads? who knows. I certainly don't, yet here we are.

Thank-you so muchhhhhh :)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been two weeks since y/n had been dismissed from the hospital wing. None of her friends mentioned the whole eyes-turning-a-different-colour thing, but whenever she walked up to them, she saw that they would be whispering and quickly stop when they noticed her approaching. She brushed it off, as much as she could.

Her and Cedric were in a rough patch. When she had confronted him about why he wasn't there when she had been in the hospital wing, he had just shrugged and kept talking to his Hufflepuff friends. At this she had reminded him of all the times she had been there, to comfort him when he had had a quidditch injury and stormed off. As she walked off, she heard him and all the others laughing at her, and she had run off crying and hid in an empty corridor, not before checking the map to make sure nobody else was around.

She hadn't told the twins about this of course, she was afraid of the "I told you so". When they had asked why her and Cedric weren't talking, all she had said was "break." before changing the subject.

This of course hadn't gone unnoticed by Fred and George of course. As much as they didn't want her to be dating Diggory, she was their friend and they wanted to look out for her.

Y/n had apologized over and over again to Angelina and Katie, but they had told her they were okay about it, and Angelina and Fred had started "dating". If you could even call it that. They were both incredibly awkward around each other. They never even held hands. Y/n, George, Lee and Katie had all had several secret discussions about what to with their best friends, and had come to the conclusion that if things didn't get better within a month, they would do something about it.

-

Y/n and George were currently walking to the great hall for dinner, and were walking behind Fred and Angelina who were just making awkward small talk. "They're not getting any better are they?" George said quietly. "No. I don't know if we can hold out a month, it's too painful." y/n replied anxiously. George smirked, "I know exactly what you mean."

Y/n suddenly stopped in her tracks as they reached the entrance hall. "What is it y/n/n?" George asked worriedly. She didn't answer, but just kept staring at the sight in front of her. George looked up to see. Cedric was walking towards the great hall, his arm slung around some ravenclaw girl and they were both giggling. The two of them watched the pair walk into the great hall, y/n holding onto George's sleeve to stop him attacking Cedric. As they finally entered the hall, she let go. "The bastard. Let me of after him y/n/n. Y/n/n? Y/n?!" He looked back to see that she was running away, back up the stairs hurriedly wiping the tears that were leaking from her eyes. "Y/n! Wait!" George ran after her.

He ran down the corridor, but she was nowhere to be seen. One by one, he looked inside each classroom. Once he found a locked room, second last from the end, he knew this was the room she had hidden herself in. After casting Alohamora, George opened the door slowly. "Y/n?" he said quietly. He heard sniffling coming from a corner, and slowly approached to find her sitting behind one of the desks. George looked down at his best friend, the girl he fancied, and sat down next to her, wrapping his arms around her comfortingly. "Shh, shh it's okay."

"No i-it isn't Georgie." George's heart fluttered at the nickname.

"He's just a selfish bastard y/n/n."

"B-but I-I let myself fall for him, and led myself t-t-to believe h-he cared from me too."

"Some people are just bad people, and there is nothing the rest of us can do." The two were still wrapped in each others arms.

"I let myself believe that someone actually cared about me George. I-I let him in because I thought he g-genuinely cared for me." y/n spoke between sobs. "I thought someone finally cared about me..."

George lent back and held y/n's face in his hands, gently wiping away tears. "Don't ever believe that nobody cares about you. Never ever. Fred, Lee, Katie, Angelina, Charlie, Ginny, the rest of my brothers, your parents, my parents just to name a few. Me." At his last word, y/n finally looked into those dark brown eyes.

The two of them just sat there for a moment, staring at each others eyes, George wiping a tear away whenever one escaped.

And neither of them knew what was happening, but George kept glancing between y/n's bright e/c eyes and her lips, and y/n did the same. Glancing between George's deep brown eyes and his lips.

And they were both leaning in. They were both shouting at themselves in their heads to stop. That they must stop, yet they kept leaning closer.

And still closer...

-

The next morning, George woke with a start. "What have I done!" He thought, holding his head in his hands. "I kissed her. I kissed my best friend."  George, grumbling, pushed the blankets off and sat on the edge of his bed, head still in his hands.

He heard Fred grumbling in sleep, a sign that he would be waking up soon, so got dressed as quickly as he could.

He hurried down the stairs, putting on his jacket as he went. As he reached the bottom of the staircase, he bumped into someone. "Oh sorry, I wasn't lo-" "Hi, um. Hi George."

"Hey Y/n."

"..."

"..."

"Look about yesterday..." George started

"It was a mistake George. I'm still with Cedric, technically. We were just caught up in the moment. Emotions high, all that."

"Right."

"I think we just put it behind us. Forget it ever happened."

"Yeah. You're right."

"..."

"..."

"I'm um. I'm gonna go down to breakfast. Wanna come?" she asked.

"Ah no. I'll wait for Fred. I'll see you down there."

"Alrighty."

"See you."

"Bye."

As y/n exited the common room, George let out a sigh of relief. "Well that was awkward." He thought.

He sat down on one of the chairs by the fire, and, once again, held his head in his hands. What was he hoping she would say? That she would break up with Cedric to be with him? That she had now realised that she loved him all along? No. This was expected.

"Heyo. You okay George? You're looking a bit peaky." Fred had come up to George and put his hand on his shoulder. George couldn't tell him. Like Y/n had said, they were going to forget it had ever happened. "All good. I'm starving. Breakfast?"

The brothers headed down to the great hall for breakfast, one rambling on about some new scheme he had thought up over night, blissfully unaware of his twins inner battle that was currently having.
