Ch 27: The second prophecy

...There was one prophecy they all knew about. The one that told of a wizard who would defeat the dark lord. One that some could recount off the top of their heads; 

The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies...

There was another however. One that few know of. One very similar to the first;

The one with the power of the Dark Lord has been born... gifted to those who have thrice defied him, eager for child... and the Dark Lord will mark them as his equal, but the child will have power the Dark Lord knows not... and the child shall join the Dark Lord before the end, if not loved as a child should be... for one cannot die while the other survives... the one with the power of the Dark Lord shall join her rightful father before the end... for the one with the power of the Dark Lord emerges...

"It is happening. We dare not stop it."

"We have stopped it. We must have! Did we not love her as a child should be?"

"There must have been something we missed."

"How could we have missed something. The years we spent pulling that thing apart."

"Perhaps you were looking for the wrong thing-"

"She is our daughter. How could she join him?"

"I never said-"

"It is what the prophecy foretold, perhaps we are meant to let her-"

"Meant? Meant?! Let her join him? Are you insane?"

"I am many things, but insane is not one of them Mr Bl-"

"I cannot lose her! Do you not understand that?!"

"I understand you perfectly."

"Why don't we talk to her?"

"Finally. A good idea."

"What if she wants to join him?"

"Then there is no point trying to stop her-"

"What is wrong with the two of you?! She's your daughter too you know. You're just going to let her join the dark side?"

"I never said-"

"That's certainly what it sounded like-"

A knock was heard at the door, and the person entered. 

"I'm sorry to interrupt, but Ms Lupin-Black has awoken."

Two of the three men barged past the woman and ran out. 

"What is her condition Poppy?"

"She is completely fine headmaster, if not a bit shaken."

"Thank you dear. You may leave."

The old man sat in his chair, and sunk into deep thought. The second man was right, they could not stop something if it was already wanted.
