FLASH BACK

I can still remember when I first met Malia. I hated her at first. She was always so negative and wasn't very happy. Me on the other hand, was always positive and peppy. We were the opposite. She was shy and never spoke up. I was interactive and spoke when I wanted.

One time we were paired in a group to make a city. I rolled my eyes when I heard our names being called. I whispered to my friends "Seriously, I had to be paired with the loser?" My friends laughed as I walked over to stand by Malia as I was told to. I stood mutely as Malia doodled on her hand. I sat down next to her and listened to the teacher as she gave instructions on how we'll be doing this. "Work with your partner and find a way to agree on how you make the city. Make sure to include everything that we've learned in class. Go ahead and start." our teacher tells us. I try to start off the conversation. "Sooo... What do you want to do for our city?" I asked Malia as she continued to doodle. "I don't care. I just want a good grade." Malia mumbles and slacks on her doodle. "Seriously" I whisper to myself so no one hears me. "Do you have any ideas to do for it though?" I asked. "We can do something like Divergent. It's one of my many favorite books." she says looking at me and stopped doodling all together. "You like Divergent too?" I say excitedly. "Yea" she replies casually. Maybe we aren't so different. I say to myself. I keep talking to Malia to figure out what she likes. "What else do you want to do? We do have a whole city to do and only one idea. I think we'll need more. Any ideas?" I say as I look at the ceiling to think. "No more ideas here" She replies and focuses back on her drawing.

It was a week into the project and Malia and I became closer. We didn't sit with each other at lunch, or hang out on the weekend, or share clothes, or anything like that but we were getting closer. I knew that her life had it's ups and downs. She found out that my life had its ups and downs too. After two weeks, we started hanging out more. We learned more and more. Malia wasn't as bad as I thought but she was still a bit annoying. I would gossip to my other friends about everything, like normal teenagers would do. One of my friends told Malia I didn't like her and Malia came up to me the next day and started getting mad at me. At the time I was so confused at what was happening. "Whats wrong Malia?" I say with sympathy. "What's wrong? Seriously, Kaylee! What do you think!" she screamed. "What Malia? I said calmly. "One of your backstabbing friends told me that you didn't like me! How could you! I thought we were friends!" she screamed. Our argument attracted many people. Everyone turned their heads. "Malia. Please, calm down" I said nervously, looking at the crowd. "Kaylee! You betrayed me! What is wrong with you! I thought you were better than this!" She screamed. "What are you talking about?" I say totally confused. "If you felt bad for me you should've have said so, instead of playing me and thinking you really liked me!" she lowered her voice a little but she was still loud. "Malia, why would you think I wasn't your friend?" I asked. "Your friend told me," she said with tears in her eyes. "and I believed you when you said you wanted to be my friend. You've lost my trust and all hope of being friends. Forget the trip we had planned out for spring break." Malia said calmly. "Malia. I didn't say that. Well I did before we became good friends. I would never do such a thing to you. You have to believe me when I tell you." I say with tears in my eyes too. "You betray me. I cant trust you anymore. Just never talk to me again. You're a jerk and you're just like every other rich snobby girl at this school" she said. "What. No. Malia, please listen. You're my friend. Please stay" I say. "No. You listen. I'm not up to being your puppet. Just stop talking to me" she said and started crying with humiliation. "Im sorry Malia" I whispers before she ran away. I turned to look at my friends. "Who told her I didn't like her?" I asked in all confusion. Everyone shrugged. "Ugh." I whispered.

That fight between Malia and I weakened our friendship, but also brought us closer together. After I talked to her about what had happened and explained that I never said that, we became friends again. We never left each other's side. We stuck together like bread and butter. From then on, we haven't had one fight. If there was, it meant nothing. Im so glad to have my best friend now.
