After Four Years

Then, pair of black eyes caught my attention first.

It was so unfamiliar yet intimidating

The man was wearing a black mask and a black suit. His gaze never left mine and so did I. His eyes and posture remained calm while I was starting to tense up. A group of high class talked to the man in black which made him avert his eyes. I hurriedly walked away from him since he was making me uncomfortable. His calm and weird aura is very intimidating and I don't know why. I couldn't see his face since it was covered with a mask.

I saw a table full of brown boxes — must be gifts. I placed myself on an unoccupied table since I want to be alone at this occasion. Their table setting etiquette was beyond compare. I even don't know what these different spoons and forks mean, I mean they look all the same but I believe that these have different purposes.

After a few minutes, everyone in the room took their respective seats when a man with great posture went in front.

"Ladies and gentlemen, Sir Hubert Myerscough." He left like the wind after saying that. Everyone in the room clapped formally then a man in a gray suit took his place. Wrinkles were very visible on his skin and he had lots of white hair indicating that he is already old.

"A pleasant evening to everyone. First of all, I would like to thank and welcome everyone who went to my son, Brian's birthday. Brian? Please come here in front." Sir Hubert waited for Brian to come but one of his men said that he was nowhere to be found. He looked unpleased with the information he received.

"I apologize but Brian isn't here yet since he has an important rendezvous to attend. But anyway, I'll make sure that he'll show up at the dance."

He clapped twice.

"Enjoy the feast!"

Men and women came out from nowhere holding trays on top or their palms. They served the food on the table and I thanked the girl serving my meal and she sweetly smiled at me. When everyone started eating, I started too.

Their food tastes good but it was quite unfamiliar and I was actually enjoying it. After a few minutes, I finally finished eating and saw that everyone was finished eating too. The orchestra played a piece for waltz while some men stood up and asked the ladies to dance. Now the dance floor was filled with men and women elegantly dancing. Assuming no one to ask me to dance, I went to the empty balcony that caught my attention a while ago.

When I entered the door to the balcony, the cold wind covered my skin. I went near the balustrade and rested my hands on the hand rails. The moon was shining so brightly and the stars were twinkling with the others. I remembered Profesor Ta's lesson about Romeo and Juliet with their Balcony scene. What if I was Juliet? But it's too impossible for she was born in a rich family.

"What could be a young lady doing in an empty balcony when everyone is enjoying inside?" A manly voice said behind.

A man spoke with his shoulders resting at the wall. I jolted when I recognized the man in front of me. He was the intimidating guy I saw a while ago!

"Mute aren't we?" His voice caused me to shiver. He walked closer to me.

"I uh just uhm don't feel like dancing." I stuttered when I uttered those words.

"A pleasant night it is milady?" He fixed his posture and stood beside me looking at the sky.

"Indeed it is." I removed my eyes off him and focused at the stars.

My heart started to thump fast with him close to me. His scent reached my nostrils. He smelled like fresh lilacs with a mix of a mint smell. To be honest, I want to get away from this place especially from him. He did nothing wrong to me but be just scares me.
