Jameson didn't just score one touchdown in five minutes...the superhuman scored two.
St. Thomas never had another chance to even score after halftime. I didn't know what kind of jungle juice Jameson drank, but I knew never to make another bet with him if it involved football ever again. The guy was a complete beast. When the final score was called, 26-19, his teammates swarmed him like bees to honey.
Mariah, dramatically, had tears of joy in her eyes. She didn't stop cheering for Jameson the entire game. I was surprised, and disappointed, that her vocal cords weren't damaged at the end of it all.
The fans were on their feet, waving pompoms and cheering with intense excitement. Jameson, still caught in the crowd of his teammates, was pulled up onto someone's shoulders. He took his helmet off and raised it in the air, showing off during his victory lap. The crowd went crazy and my ears began to ring. Everyone loved him - obviously. He was Chellgren's adoration.
I couldn't help to clap along with everyone else. A small smile was stuck to my face in support of my friend. That was before my world shook. My breath hitched when I saw Jameson looking straight at me. His gaze locked and unwavering. He sent a breathtaking smile in my direction that caused me to look down at my feet to avoid the special attention.
It was special, wasn't it?
"Bitch!" Mariah wrapped a tight hand around my arm. My attention was immediately diverted towards her anger. She was red hot. Her fiery hair spilled like liquid blood around her shoulders. Those vicious eyes lined with black and sharp to cut narrowed. "What. The. Fuck. Was. That?"
"What are you talking about," I asked, jerking my arm out of her grip. My fingers rubbed at my tender elbow. That would probably bruise.
She gestured another hand towards the now-clearing field. "He smiled at you," she exclaimed. Charlotte winced beside me. Okay, so her shriek was that bad to everyone else too. "Jameson smiled at you. He actually bothered to look at you."
"I...I don't think he was looking at me." I blew it off, confusion clear on my face. "You're sitting right next to me, Mariah. He was clearly looking at you."
She shook her head, disagreeing. "He wasn't looking for me." A look clouded her face. I didn't know what emotion was there, but it was nothing in my favor. "Who the fuck are you?" My arm was caught in her clutches again.
"I'm Aubrey Alexander." I pulled my arm out from under her talons and took a couple steps back. Charlotte came between us, preparing to mediate. Mariah's blonde minion stood behind her leader, twirling a hair strand and giving me a glare.
"Mariah, we all know Jameson is yours, okay?" Charlotte said. She ran a hand through her hair. "I wouldn't let my sister do that to you."
Mariah looked between Charlotte and I. My arms were crossed around my chest as my defense rose. These spoiled kids could tell Charlotte to jump and she'd do it. I hated how she felt the need to give in to this girl so easily. It made me want to know about her and Lincoln that much more.
"I know what I saw," Mariah spat. Her eyes locked on mine. I glanced at Charlotte pleadingly. I hated to play this type of role, but I didn't know how to diffuse a situation like this. Charlotte tried hard not to look into my eyes.
