"Why are we doing this?" I complained as I leaned my head back into the chair.
"It's fun. I've done it once years back with a friend. Come on Crowley, don't be a sod!" Aziraphale urged as he stood in front of me, waiting for me to stand from the seat.
"Right... so what are we doing exactly then?" I grumbled.
"The 1950's is a great time for the beach and it is summer. Armageddon has been stopped and our head offices have left us alone. Shouldn't we at least do something fun?" Aziraphale asked, his eyes doing that thing that I couldn't resist.
"Alright... fine!" I finally consented.
Aziraphale beamed at me. "Stop," I demanded."What am I doing?" Asked Aziraphale as his mouth curved down a slight.
"The whole smiley, beamy... excited face thingy..." I said with a scowl.
The angel only chuckled and began heading towards the bookshop exit. "Come Crowley!" He urged.
I groaned and slinked in from behind towards my Bentley. I sat behind the wheel and turned to Aziraphale who held an eager face.
"So what... you said the 1950's?" I asked.
"1956," he replied.
"Right," I said as I snapped my fingers and a flashing light transported us.
We were at the parking lot of some beach from what it looked like. Couples with excited children skipping towards the beach passed through. The sun shone bright as I felt the warm air circulate.
I was getting ready to open the door but Aziraphales voice cut through, "what are doing going out like that?" Asked the angel as he gestured towards my clothes.
"Oh so we're actually going to swim and do stuff...?" I said with a sigh as I waved my hand pass my torso.
Immediately my dark jacket and black jeans were replaced by a simple pair of black swimming trunks. I stared at Aziraphale after as the angel smiled at me and changed his own as well. With the snap of his own fingers he was in yellow trunks.
"You might want these," I said as I reached into a compartment and took out a pair of shades. I handed it to him and gave a small smile.
"Thank you!" Said Aziraphale as he added the shades to his beach attire.
I only grumbled and began opening the door. I exited and was surprised to see Aziraphale opening the trunk of the Bentley.
"What are you doin' angel?" I asked rather gruffly.
"Well we need towels... and maybe something to float on?" Said the angel as he miraculously pulled out items for the beach.
He began placing into my arms a towel and a pale with a shovel. "What's this for?" I asked as I stared at the pale in my hand.
"Have you ever heard of sandcastles?" He asked with an eager glint.
"Not sure I want to," I mumbled as I hurried him on.
The both of us made our way across the car lot and entered the sandy shores of the beach. It wasn't crowded and few families inhibited the waters way. We found a spot and spread our towels, or Aziraphale did as I still wasn't sure of how this all quite worked.
"Shall we then?" Asked the angel once all of our items were set in place.
I cocked an eyebrow at him as I stared in confusion.
Aziraphale grinned at me and began walking towards the beach shores, he was already standing in the splashing waves. I grumbled and followed behind him. I stood at the very edge of the waves as I waited for the water to touch my toes. The cool water splashed up against my feet as I flinched from the coldness.
"Come on Crowley!" Urged on the angel as he was already in knee deep.
"Come on Crowley..." I mocked from under my breath as I slowly waded in.
we stood several feet away from each other as I caught a mischievous glance from the angel.
I folded my arms as I stared at him, "Well... now what?" I asked, still not amused by this event.
Very swiftly, Aziraphale swung out his arm and created a huge wave which splashed onto me. The shock from the water knocked me down as I fell into the twirling waves.
"Oh! You asked for it angel!" I yelled as I lunged from the water and made a wave twice the size of his as I let it pour over him.
We laughed like idiots and continued the splashing, each wave bigger than the last. Finally, I delivered a wave, big enough to knock Aziraphale clear off his feet as he disappeared below the depths.
"Angel?" I asked once I didn't see him rise back up, sheer panic building up inside.
Something pinched my side from behind as I yelped and jerked forward. The wild laughs of Aziraphale exploded from behind as I frowned. It didn't last long until both of us were heaving from laughter.
Finally the two of us wadded back towards our spot on the sand as we wrapped up in the towels and sat on the warm sand.
Aziraphale reached for the plastic blue pale and shovel as he began scooping sand into the small bucket.
I cocked an eyebrow as I watched him work. After several minutes, he patted down the sand and flipped the pale upside down. Once it was flat on the sand, he patted the top and removed the pale to expose a pristine sand castle.
"Now you try," he said as he handed me the pale.
"No..." I said warily as I stared a the pale in his grip.
The eyes got me once more, those stupid begging eyes! A small moment passed before I gave into his persistent asking and took the pale into my hand. Slowly I worked to fill it up with the damp sand and finally it had been patted down and flipped.
I lifted the plastic pale to reveal a clumsy sand castle. Aziraphale smiled at me warmly.
"Would you look at that," he murmured as he turned to look behind me.
I turned as well to see the sky in brilliant lighting.
"A sunset, really?" I asked.
"Don't you like it?" Asked the angel.
"It's great," I assured as I sat next to him, still wrapped up in a towel.
The two of us sat watching the sky, our sandcastles displayed on the front.
I noticed Aziraphale look down worriedly as I gave him a questioned look.
"They might see us... they might not be happy. Up there...?" Said the angel with concern as he pointed his thumb upwards towards the sky.
"It's just you and me angel, just the two of us off together."
