I strolled down through London as I walked past small shops. I halted as I paused in front of a plant display. A small pot stood, a plant with luscious green leaves displaying and spilling over the edge of the terracotta pot.
Crowley would like another plant... I thought with a small smile as I reached to grab it.
I paid for the small gift and left to hail a cab.
Crowley would be ecstatic!
I've been to his place once and I luckily, by the chance of miracle remembered the address. It was still early morning and I was sure that he'd still be tending to himself at his place.
The drive was short as I clutched the small green plant to myself. The leaves were velvety soft and smelled of fresh greenery. After paying the cabbie I stood in front of the door of his flat.
I rung the doorbell. A long pause and no answer back. I reached to ring again but the door cracked open pausing me from doing so.
"Aziraphale...?" Asked Crowley as he opened the door more widely, his usual neat rusty red hair was out of place as it stuck out in odd directions.
"Yes, hello Crowley, I got you something," I said cheerfully.
"Oh yes, come in," Invited Crowley as he pushed the door to let me inside.
The dingy walls greeted me as I glanced around the rather dull flat. Crowley lead me into a room with a large red throne in the center with a desk. He gestured towards it and I sat politely. I then revealed the potted green plant of which I hid behind my back to him.
"I erm... well I was passing a plant shop and noticed this plant for sale, I remember in the 1970's you mentioning about tending to your plants. I thought maybe I could get you one," I said as I watched Crowley look at me with amusement.
"Oh... thank you, angel," Said Crowley as he picked the plant from my hands and held it to inspect it. "I'll add it to the others then."
"Others?" I perked up, "I would love to see your plant room!" I said excitedly.
Crowley bit his lip, "Fine, follow along then."
I jumped from the red throne and followed behind his steps. The room was just across as I entered a very green room. Plants lined the room walls, big and small. A small table was next to the door with a small plastic plant mister. I grinned as I stared around. Crowley strolled to set the small potted plant to an especially sunny spot.
"Listen here, everyone!" Said Crowley in a loud voice as I watched him walk past the plants, "Be nice to the new plant or ELSE!" Demanded Crowley as he quickly turned to glare at an especially big plant. "If he begins to wilt or get spots," Continued Crowley as he pointed to the new plant, "I'll blame one of you, and it won't be a pretty sight," Hissed Crowley.
I watched in amusement as a few plants began to tremble their leaves in what I could only describe as fright.
Crowley then turned to face me with his hands clasped behind his back, "Now, wait here angel, I need to go fix something really quick."
"Fix...?" I asked. "I thought demons don't-"
"I was inferring to my hair, I need to fix my hair," Said Crowley with a roll of his eyes.
"Oh, jolly good," I said as I watched him leave.
Once only I and the plants remained I approached the big plant that Crowley seemed to be most threatening. I leaned in close to it and began speaking to it. Not a harsh tone such as my friend's but a soothing one. Its leaves began to stop trembling and almost seemed to gain a greener tone. I went down the line of frightened plants as I spoke words of comfort and positivity.
"WhAt ArE yoU dOinG AzirAphALe?!?!" Exclaimed Crowley.
I turned quickly to stare at him, guilt burning inside of me as Crowley turned to inspect the plants with an aghast expression.
"I was only speaking nice words to them and calming them down, you made them frightfully scared Crowley!" I postulated.
"Yeah, that's the point!" Objected Crowley as he glared at the plants.
I frowned as I left the room quickly to sit back on the throne. The grumbling of Crowley in the plant room was heard as I attempted to pull my focus onto the globe that rested just on the desk's edge.
The harsh tone of Crowley immediately stopped as I turned to see him speaking in a very hushed tone to one particular plant. As curiosity filled me I stood from the chair and quietly walked to the plant room's entrance. I watched in astonishment as I witnessed Crowley kneeling next to the very plant that I had given him, speaking in a light tone. He was saying pleasant things and phrases of encouragement.
I smiled to myself, Sometimes... even demons could be softies.
