Tyler’s POV

The days flew by, and before I knew it I was heading to Perth to meet Troye’s family. I was nervous and excited and scared all at the same time. I knew them so well already, thanks to Skype, but meeting someone in the flesh for the first time was scary and very daunting. You can’t hide behind your laptop or make up excuses for cutting a conversation short when it got too confronting or personal.

What if they didn’t like me?

Troye, having sensed my unease, turned to look at me with his eyebrows raised slightly. “Everything okay Ty?” he asked, concern clearly written all over his face.

I sighed, fidgeting with the thin blanket the airline had provided us with. “Umyeaheverythingisfinewhydoyouask?” I blurted, my words mixing up as they made their way from my brain to my mouth without any filters whatsoever.

“What?” Troye laughed, a small amount of amusement dancing across his features briefly before settling back into concerned confusion.

I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves before repeating myself, annunciating the words slowly so he didn’t have to ask again.

“I said yeah, everything is fine, why do you ask?”

“Oh, uh, well, for one, you have not sopped fidgeting in your chair since we sat down on this plane…. Three hours ago… Also, you’ve been mumbling under your breath, changing activities every few minutes- watching TV to listening to your iPod to Tumblr and Twitter, and I swear, if you pick at that blanket much more, it’s going to unravel into a pile of string at your feet- Ty!” he snatched the blanket away from me and took my hands in his firmly. “What’s wrong? You know you can talk to me, right?”

I laughed and nodded… guess I wasn’t being as inconspicuous as I’d thought. “I just… I’m a little scared to meet your family… what if they don’t actually like me in the flesh as much as they do through a computer screen?”

“Ty, really? That’s what you’ve been so fidgety about? No, they’re going to love you, really! They can’t wait to meet you, I promise, I haven’t seen them this excited in a very long time!”

I gasp in shock, seeing nothing but truth in his eyes. “Are you sure?” I hope he’s telling the truth, I really want them to like me. Troye’s family comes first for him, and if I make a bad impression and they hate me, I'm scared he’ll stop being my friend because his family won’t want him associating with me. “What if they think I’m being a bad influence to you, or…”

“Ty, Tyler, Tilly… stop, ok? They wont hate you, I promise! And if they do, well, that’s their loss isn’t it… I’m not willing to lose you Ty, you’re my best friend, and if they can’t accept that then that’s just too bad. But it wont come to that because you’ve already met Steele, and he loved you, remember?”

I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Yeah, I’d already met Steele. He was nice, I liked him. I was pretty sure he liked me too, I didn’t see any hate or unease from him when we spent time together in San Fran that one time. I knew I was just being stupid. I knew the Mellets would like me… who wouldn’t? Ever since I’d decided to let Troye go, I’d been a bit emotional… and being around him almost 24/7 wasn’t helping me get rid of any residual feelings I still had for him. I needed a break. I needed space and thousands of miles between us so I could work this all out properly.
