Pik's Resolution

A delicious aroma filled Pik's nose the moment he entered his home. After taking off his shoes, he went to the kitchen and peeked. A very familiar sight greeted him. His Rome, in his usual shirt, shorts and apron, expertly alternating between frying vegetables and cutting more meat for their dinner soup. Pik smiled to himself.

Never did he imagined the love of his life turned out to be the timid Rome from college. Once upon a time, he thought he would end up with Milk, his ex from yesteryear. Now, watching this young man putting his all to cook for Pik, Pik can't help but feel touched. Not that he would let Rome know. Pik isn't someone who is open with words but he shows his affection through his own actions and pace, something that Rome is used to and accepted by now.

That is something Pik is grateful to Rome for. No matter how insensitive Pik could accidentally be to Rome sometimes, Rome always have that ability to understand the meaning behind it and forgives him. It is an exaggeration but Pik was inspired to behave more of Rome, rational, understanding and forgiving. That's Rome's way of loving Pik.

Honestly, Pik never thought he would last so long with Rome. He thought eventually Rome would grow tired of him and finally leave him. That didn't happen. Instead, it was Pik realizing how he is falling deeper in love with Rome, how he now wants to build a life with Rome, to grow old together and to create memories of both of them. It came to the point where Pik didn't want to think of a life without Rome. It came to the point where he was finally brave enough to introduce Rome as his soulmate and partner to his family, friends and colleagues. None of the introductions were easy to do but with Rome, he didn't feel afraid.

No, today, Pik must always be with his Rome and vice versa. It's only natural.

"P'Pik, you are home early?" Rome's voice got Pik's attention. He was right in front of Pik before he tiptoed and kissed Pik on the cheek. Pik felt his heart bursting with warmth. Rome's bright smile. That special bright smile belonging only to Rome. 

"Umm...yeah, it's New Year's Eve so my boss let all us off earlier," Pik mumbled. Rome giggled. Pik knew Rome knew he was shy.

"That's great! Why don't you go take a bath and I'll call you when dinner's ready?" Rome smiled, obviously trying ease the whole shy situation. Pik nodded and was about to walk away when he turned.

Rome was back stirring his soup and tasting it.

Suddenly, Pik felt like he wanted to do more. He just wanted to be with Rome, a little but more. It's a sudden longing hit.

"P'Pik, you ok? Why are you still standing here?" Rome asked when he noticed Pik not moving.

"Umm...I thought I could help set the table," Pik asked.

Rome smiled and nodded.

Right then, Pik knew what his new year resolution is.

Make Rome smile. Always.
